Well I gotta head off for work.... But that's my opinion from the match

Burgess, passes to slow, taking a step
Barnes, complete lack of imagination, kick kick kick
Brown, does not look up to international standard

Slipper, was dominant in the scum, very strong on the hit, loves to burrow in

Bloody hell. I didn't see the game, but is it now apparent that Barnes, like Giteau is not a 10 but a 12?

I couldn't watch the match but from what I gather the set piece was all good until S Finger came on...

Should Edmonds replace him as backup Wallaby hooker? Edmonds would also provide another good ball carrier in attack...

Barnes controlled and won a game in the wet in the NH. With a bunch of strangers against a side who play together and in these conditions every week. I'm impressed.

Shit Hot: Van, Simmons, Burgo, Slipper, Edmunds, Turner, Mumm, Twelvetrees (perhaps I was brainwashed by commentator)
Met Expectations: Barnes, Higgers, Hodgson, A Finger, Davies, McCabe
Shit: Dick Brown, S Ma'afu, FingerS, Hynes

I posted about this on another thread, but anyway...

100% agree with Moses on all those players and especially re Barnes. Today's game called for good kicking and a steady hand from 10. I don't know that we would have won that game with Quade.

Well I was on an interrupted feed so maybe I saw a different game. I thought Brown completely outplayed Higginbotham who was hardly visible, Burgess was fine and drove most of our attack and Barnes was OK except for his place kicking. Barnes doesn't play 10 like Cooper, he's much more conservative and in English conditions that's usually productive.

Davies was not impressive, Van was good as was Hodgson. Edmonds had a good game and outplayed Fainga'a. Slipper and Maafu looked good. I expected Hynes to run more from the back but he was generally safe.

For Saturday I'd still swap Barnes and Giteau, I'd replace Chisholm with Van and have a long hard think about THP. If Moore plays I would play Edmonds before Fainga'a on the bench; if Moore doesn't I'd play Edmonds, with TPN on the bench.

Commentary team were appalling - totally biased and ignorant of the laws. They even thought the fake throw was a bad call!

So, should Slipper start on the weekend... and at whose expense? Or should Deans keep trying to rebuild the two Bens?

I also thought Lachie Turner increased his chances for selection. He scored a good try by following Burgess and taking a difficult pass. He then came close to another try in the 55th minute when he chased his own grubber and won the race to the ball near the line, but knocked it on in the act of re-gathering. How quick was he chasing the ball?

I think the boom has gone off Rocket Rod for the time being. Lachie is keeping both starting wingers honest. I believe he should be ahead of Mitchell.

Ok, so Van played well. Now partner him with Sharpe. Happy for both Ben's to start but Slipper must get more game time.

I would be happy for us to achieve parity in the scrum. England are going to come at us with a field position game so lets go after their linout. Sharpe, Van and Rocky make for a very imposing lineout. Get up and contest everything.

Davies sits on the wing and waits for the ball. I did not see him help clean out or defend at a ruck once. He just stood watching. In this tpe of game your wings need to work like loose forwards at times on defense.

At one point the Wallabies had the ball in a ruck and Leicester started driving over the ball. He skipped around the blindside to defend! YEs we know it stinks down there but get in there son.

Great Super rugby wing though but that's it.

15 Peter Hynes - 6/10solid, played as expected, looked for space and kicked averagely
14 Rod Davies - 4/10 average, missed tackles, dropped the ball, got smashed in contact
13 Pat McCabe - 5/10 solid in defense, failed to beat a defender
12 Anthony Fainga'a - 5/10 solid in defense, failed to beat a defender
11 Lachie Turner - 6/10 had two chances, scored one try
10 Berrick Barnes - 7/10 solid, played as expected, he will play the numbers and is conservative, but he kept the play in their 22 wherever possible and closed out the game, missed too many penalties
9 Luke Burgess - 8/10 solid busy, probably MOTM, the guy is a pest
8 Richard Brown - 7/10 good game beat defenders in close, tackled well
7 Matt Hodgson - 5/10 OK, missed tackles, bad hands
6 Scott Higginbotham - 4/10, pretty invisible, failed to take his chance
5 Rob Simmons - 7/10 Good game
4 Van Humphries - 7/10 ran the line out well and worked hard
3 Salesi Ma'afu - 6/10 solid scrummaging once they got their hit right
2 Huia Edmonds - 6/10 shame he gets his plaudits for doing stuff not linked to tight forward play
1 James Slipper - 7/10 good game, becoming a very solid individual
