Based on that game, the only Wallabies I would pick in an All Black team last are Ioane and Genia. and probably Kepu over Crockett. Mils looked old and slow to me last nite so maybe Beale as well.

Horwill over Ali Williams easily

His pilfering is superb. Stole more balls than Pocock.

i think that was moreseo a reflection of his aggressiveness at the rucks and the AB's reluctance to over commit rather then his natural pilfering skills...
the opportunity was there for other forwards to do that as well(cough McCalman & Elsom), but they werent as involved in the tight as Horwill.

Surely Horwill over Williams & Thorn? Not only was he better in last nights game he's 6 & 10 years younger.

Towards the end of the Super 15, including the final, Horwill did some nice pilfering. Fair point about Pocock being watched. I don't mind other teams focusing on Pocock if it allows others to snaffle the ball.

The problem with the Wallabies backrow is that it's a one man band. All the expectation is on Pocock. The poor bastard got bashed and penalised out of the game. He works his arse off but if his effectiveness is nullified someone else has to step up into that void. Kev put his hand up a couple of times last night but where were our 6 & 8?
Look at the way Read and McCaw work together, chuck in a Kaino for good measure and you have that "balance" everyone keeps spruiking. Focus on one of them and the other makes you pay.
Instead we treat Pocock like the big kid who's grown first in the Under 8's and expect him to make something happen, and if he can't say he had an off night.
If Higginbotham is going to be our ball running back rower (which I think he earnt the right to run on and be that guy last night) then we need a foil for Pocock too.

Like I said many times McCalman is Brown mark II - all work rate and zero effectiveness. I would sacrifice 25% of that workrate for some effectiveness. As for Elsom as I stated on another thread he is playing to the form he has displayed this year - zero. He did nothing to deserve his "guarenteed" selection and nobody should be surprised that he is ineffectual in his play, I am not. As for Captaincy he is not an effective Captain, regardless of the propaganda from certain Official scribes, and most of the on field leadership is given over to Genia, Sharpe, Horwill et al.

Gnostic. Good ratings. Quite fair. I'd possibly give Digby and Horwill 7s though. Perhaps a 6.5 for Moore. Horwill was solid. Quite effective with what he did, had a good work rate and even made 2 pilfers. Good for a guy thats 2m and 120kg.

actually, McCalman joins a long list of high work rates and low effectivness number 8's who have graced the Wallaby jersey in the professional era... Brown, Roe, Hoiles
