So the ARU have come up with One Team as the slogan for the Wallabies this year. What are peoples thoughts on this. Also they have just launched the new ad.

The One Team ad is about 1 million times better than last season's...

Can't say I'll be screaming out "One Team" from the stands though.

Why "one team"? The Wallabies have always been one team (well almost always). The implication of "one team" is that Australia is a union of competing provinces that temporarily gives up its parochialism for the national squad. That may be an appropriate moniker for a team like the Boks, where there are very strong provincial rivalries and clear racial divides but its hardly appropriate for Australia where we have rarely ever had those deeply entrenched loyalties that have to be cast aside in the national interest.

Something like "our team", which would help to drag in supporters from other sports to a national team would have been far more appropriate for the australian situation. A slogan like "we want Bill back" would probably work too. "One team" sounds like the work of a committee that lost its way.

The ad's not bad (as in Crocodile Dundee getting the world cup back bad) but it lacks oomph. The pace is slow, the music too down tempo and some of the footage has serious quality (contrast) issues. The result is like the schoolkids report - "could have done much better this year".

I think it could be more a dig at the other codes. AFL has 17 teams at their elite end. In league State of Origin is the pinnacle. In rugby we are all united behind "one team". Also with the expanded Super season when people spend more time supporting one of 5 teams it is just a reminder that we are coming back under the common goal of "one team"

i like it
now i belive they need to do some ads promoting the more marketable figures in the game>
oconner, beale, genia, tpn (with his mo fro only), pocock> show these guys doing the things that they are known for and when they do it in the games people who dont watch that often will immediately remember and they will enjoy the game more>> its how the brain works
and ive not included cooper because if he ever does leave rugby for league it will make the coup so much the greater for them
i know this contradicts with the 'team' idea but its simple marketing> look how the leaugue promotes its heros

They obviously got their Genia idea from the GAGR 2010 highlights vid, you saw it all here first.

And apparently one RD was the brains behind the 'one team' line. Not convinced but it's not terrible either.

To be fair the Reds and Tahs have a pretty decent rivalry built on the whole NSW vs QLD thing. But the other 3 provinces dont really being quite new.

Where in Adelaide are you Hawko? I just saw your location.

I think the "One Team" thing is getting at the idea that the Wallabies should be THE national sporting team for Australia this year. I don't see it as suggesting a fractured union or anything. I think it's just saying "this is the one team for everyone in Australia to get behind this year, regardless of whether you even care about sport."

That's what I got from it.

Yep I definitely got the feeling that "One Team" is all about getting the public behind the only national team we'll have playing a world cup/championship in a major sport at that time. And considering the World Cup will be in direct competition with the AFL and NRL finals series they need to do something to promote our game and get interest away from the big two.

One team, one nation worked just dandy for SA in 95. Strong message if marketed well.

Obviously the context was slightly different although I think it definitely has potential.

I do think the ad is the best we've seen from the ARU in a long time, though. The music works well in this version but I hope it's a bit more full-on for the shorter TV ads.

Slightly different circumstances though!

Really? Doh. :)

I'm saying the idea of getting people to pull together regardless of what they believe, like etc. in a VERY generic context.

Mundo different concept but worth a go at dragging the mungoes along for the party. Just tell them there will be lots of beer. :)
