Richie McCaw is looking to stay in NZ after the world cup and not head north to Europe.

The attraction of a end-of-career payday in France or England has become a trend for All Blacks, Springboks and Wallabies and the rumour mill is already clogged with stories of big names on the move after next year's global showpiece.

But the IRB's Player of the Year has indicated that his is looking to prolonging his international career as long as possible rather than make an early move North.

Looks like Pocock might have to face up to McCaw a few more times

I wouldn't worry about it, post WC McCaw will be too old, too slow and too depressed from failing to win AGAIN :fishing

I'm sure Braid is super excited to hear this, he could be the new Whittaker

I think Richie will be around as long as his replacement captain wise and position wise isn't ready. Captain wise, Read is shaping up nicely.

Position wise... ooo, errr, ummm... errr...

still potential for Latimer & George Whitelock, Karl Lowe had a good debut season & some fella for the Cantabs in the NPC was apparently looking like a bolter for EOYT (Matt Ford, I think his name was). Neither is a 2010 Pocock or a 2009 Brussow though.

Yeah but Mccaw is at the top of his game or just over the top and Pocock is still improving - won't be long and the student overcomes the teaher

I think it will be good for pocock to face McCaw and Brussow for as long as they are great players, will improve his game a fair bit with the challenge of McCaw every bledisloe match

I think Pocock will become the best openside by next years world cup

I would prefer Richie too stay though just to increase his status as one of the greatest, same goes for Carter. Then they can come to Europe

I'm by no means a McCaw fan, but I really hope he times his exit from international footy well. I'd hate to see him become like John Smit, although it would probably help the Wobs cause a bit.

The thing Richie would need to consider is injury. He has been pretty much injury free so far, but he would be of the age where injuries would tend to accumulate and linger. He is such a player that his style of play wouldn't be as affected to the same extent as mere mortals, but the amount of time remaining to him could be short. And it could be in his own best interests to take the coin when he would be at a premium.

Yeh John Smit has been off form for a while and BDP is a quality hooker

McCaw should probably leave after the world cup because I think his career has enough substance to get him in the hall of fame

Carter should maybe play in nz until 2012 do a euro year then come back to the Ab's for 2015, then after that he can go to Europe for his remaining years.
If he played for another 3 test seasons his points total would be incredible as would his appearances. I reckon he would be the best 10 of all time after that.

He started off having a few concussion issues. But that seems to have passed by now (knock on wood).

I don't think coin is going to be an issue for Richie at all. He seems quite laid back, down to earth and well liked amongst all sponsors. He should walk onto the celebrity appearance circuit which the likes of Fitz, Campo have and that'll leave him nice and settled. He's certainly left such a mark on the NZ, and the global, game that he's going to be in high demand for decades to come.

Barry John?

I like the fact that Rugby still keeps legends in the discussions as to who are the best players of all time.

Although i didn't watch barry john live, I have seen the 1971 lions series and wales 5 nations matches from his era. He was a great player and should remembered as such.

However he played 25 tests and scored 90 points, 5 tries.

Carter is the leading points scorer of all time. In 79 tests he has amassed 1,188 points including 29 tries. Very impressive for a fly half as you know

He has won nearly every piece of silverware on offer several times over. RWC excluded haha

Played a near perfect game against the Lions in 2005

One of the most exciting (if not the most ...) players of his generation. I think by the time he retires he will have extended his points tally by 200 or so points.
This will probably put him in the driving seat for best ever 10.

Barry John was the king but Carter is something else

I think that larkham was an exceptional player but he can't kick goals.

Thats a big reason why I wouldn't have him over carter

dobduff11

Trevor Allan (34)
Yeh thats fine it's just that if your 10 is a great goal kicker you don't need to worry about someone else kicking. 10's don't have to be goal kickers but it helps

Mine would be 10 larkham 12 carter 13 tom carter

unstoppable

With 10. Larkham 12. Carter you can put whoever you bloody well want in the rest of the backline.

You'd need a decent 9. though.
