Much better pic of the Jonah Lomu Memorial Trophy that Counties Manukau & Wellington will contest for the first time tonight:

Early game is BoP v Northland in Rotorua, had a wee chuckle when Nisbo said it was being played at the "magnificent" International Stadium - or maybe it's had an upgrade during the off-season & is no longer the dump it's been for ~20 years since the sulphur started doing its thing to the steelwork?

Caught Mainfreight Rugby or some such title last night, it's pretty much Toyota Grassroots Rugby by a different name, complete with Richard Mason & Ian Jones doing almost all the Comms. Lovely interview with some guy who'd just played his 100th for Buller & was about as talkative as a Trappist monk with tonsillitis. Great stuff.

I don't like it. Aside from the fact that jumping into the tackle is de facto illegal (if not explicitly stated in the laws), it also raises the question of what would've happened had Fafita's foot clipped Francis's shoulder, and he ended up going head first into the ground.

Would Francis have been carded for 'taking the player out in the air', or would Fifita be told it's his own fault and penalised and/or carded for dangerous play? I would hope for the latter but would fear for the former.

Is there anything more aesthetically pleasing than a prop in full flight? How *ahem* good was that run by Reggie Goodes in the Wellington v BOP match? That'll be straight into his highlight tape. Of course, I might be influenced by having partaken of a few bottles of Moa Methode Pilsner.

Well the Turbos knocked over the Lambs eh?? Was a bloody good game I thought, and a good ad for showing that a team that just gets stuck in can knock over a pretty warm favourite! Turbos just decided they were going to knock over anything in a red jersey ,and did it bloody well.
There will be a few pissed students in the Fat Lady's Arms tonight!!

Bloody soft bus driver!! Geez remember heading over to the Bush to play Golden Oldies rugby, halfway across the Manawatu gorge there was a slip, bus driver somehow did a 57 point turn, and we back and over the old Saddle road, have to admit we were a bit pissed by the time we got o Porongahau for the game because we always had a few beers on way and with extra time.......

Anyway a bloody god shield challenge 20-20 draw so Waikato keep the Ranfurly shield and Taranaki keep the ryan wheeler trophy!!
Bugger was hoping the Naki won it, Manawatu would have had first crack at the Ranfurly shield!!

Good win for the Lions last night, though the Taniwha just wouldn't run up the white flag, pretty good game. By geez that kid that played 2 for Wellington sure looked like he was having fun, mind you 19 years old called into the squad from the U19s during the week, and then scored 3 tries and ran around like he was impersonating Dane Coles, I think he would put it down as a good night!! Now who will win the race to sign him in Super rugby, Hurricanes already got a couple of handy hookers?
