Just got home from Taranaki/Wellington pre season game. Was actually a bloody good game, real bloody competitive and both teams looked at pretty full strength. Wellington won 29-21 looked good especially first half, thought Reuben Love looked pretty sharp . Was good to see game at Borders club in Waverly,30 minutes south of here) so was able to lean on fence just 5 metres etc from sideline and really hear and feel everything. Also no sharge or anything to get in so all in all a good lead into NPC next week. Only heard about game being on when ref of college game I was at this morning mentioned it to me.

Shield defence highlights

Hawke's Bay 95 (Ma'afu-Afungia 3, Tuitavuki 2, Walker-Leawere, Sapsford, Weber, Godfrey, Makene 2, Higgins, Evans, Gimblett, Smith tries; Godfrey 10/14 cons, Toala 0/1 con)
Poverty Bay 22 (Mokomoko, Purvis 2, Walters tries; Purvis 0/2 cons, Patrico 1/1 con)
HT: 54-10

Presumably the "new" Magpies jersey is just for the NPC.

Liam Messam finally brings up his 100th for Mooloos...

Edit: ... & of course plays the full 90.

Magpies in black & white hoops, I'm beginning to wonder if some *stakeholders* but the kibosh on that horrendous thing they unveiled pre-season.

Mako v Stags now at 6:30 due to "travel disruptions".

Edit: Stags had to drive to Christchurch for a flight to Wellington that got diverted to Palmy then drove to Wellington & back to P'ram to catch a charter flight to Blenheim. In hindsight they shouldn't have got off the bus in Cheechee.

Campbell Parata went alright for Tasman, should be ready to step up for the Force next season with Pasitoa injured

Campbell actually only played one game for Tasman that I recall, he went well in that game, but as a rule he never did as well as I hoped as he never really cracked team. I had watched him play for Southport a few years back and had hoped he would go a bit better than he did. But I do still hope he will be ok at Force as he matures.

Thank the Lord he didn't end up the playmaking Tar Pit that is the Rebels.

Going to a good coach with Simon Cron. Force have signed well to put people around him when he gets a chance.

Parata played 10 on the weekend for Tasman - and looked handy.
