^ nor are Cantabs who've obviously spent the week practicing tackling guys wearing black & white hoops therefore utterly flummoxed by these grey & black camo gears.

OK so the jerseys are to do with the Rural Support Network* which I'm totally onboard with BUT if you're all about raising awareness of things that are mostly kept quiet, why keep quiet about the purpose of the jersey?

Edit: RSN being a support group trying to address the shocking mental health issues/ stats in NZ's* rural communities.

Edit: Australia's stats in that regard being at least as awful.

If he had his time again I wonder if Cantab's captain, with his side up 19-15 with not much time left, would take the three or the lineout?

Taranaki's Shield tenure begins today. Scheduled future challengers are:

10/10 Auckland
1/11 Counties Manukau
15/11 Hawkes Bay

Should Aucks take it Tasman get first challenge so I'll be taking a deep breath, holding my nose & whispering "Go Aucks" :)

I guess you don't have to put the ball on the ground to score a try anymore.. criminally bad.

Shield appears to be on the move & 'naki about to join the "only held it for seven days" club (Hawkes Bay have the shortest tenure of them all, six days in 2013).

Edit: Otago's remaining home games are Hawkes Bay, Counties Manukau, Northland, & Tasman. I may be spared the discomfort of being an Auck supporter for a day :).

It was mentioned in commentary that M10 has golden point & I'm thinking the Red Card replacement after 20 minutes may also have carried over: when the BoP guy got carded on Friday night there was a countdown clock in the red tab on the graphic but it came & went so wasn't sure if it was legit. Anyone know for sure?

I would ordinarily say it will be there for Tasman, but after the Bay's game yesterday I not sure.

Random little bit of Shield trivia.

Auckland would have had a challenge for the Shield in two weeks’ time had Taranaki retained the Ranfurly Shield against Otago on Sunday.

As a player and coach, Ieremia has never been involved in a Shield challenge, but he’ll have to wait longer now for that to happen and it won’t be this year as there’s not a scenario where Auckland can play a Shield holder.

Wikipedia tells me he has 65 caps for Wellington from 1994-2000. If that's right, then that's quite the wee achievement. Though I do wonder whether it includes matches missed due to injury or some such? Or could be a typo and meant to be successful challenges.

EDIT: So if this list is comprehensive, then Wellington had challenges in 1995 and 1999.

In better news for Auckland they may have found a new option for 9 - Funaki on debut was a huge step up from Ruru. He should be the starting 9 for the season and let him develop.
