Surprised that there no Pari Pari Parkinson. and no Mikaele-Tu'u, but not overly, there was always going to be some bloody good players miss out.

I think Parkinson might be injured - he hobbled off for Highlanders on weekend.

Yep - confirmed by Foster.

Outside of Karl and Ofa that's a middling bunch of NI scrummagers, so the final quarter could get messy. Conversely, the NI loosies train has no breaks.

Do we know if it's a normal match-day 23, or are all players going to get game time in a match-day 28?

Everything I've heard suggests it will be match day 23s.

There's a lot of talk about the history of the fixture and treating it very seriously so I doubt very much they'll go the preseason/trial route of extended benches.

I'd say the extra numbers will be a combination of injury cover and AB coaches getting a look at some guys/sending messages (e.g. Vaa'i, Fainga'anuku etc)

The midfield for NI is interesting. Three out and out No 13s imo although ALB usually plays 12 at the ABs as I recall. Umaga-Jensen had a particularly impressive SRA I thought.

Health Minister Hipkins has said he's not been approached re: allowing Auckland-based players etc to travel to Wellington for N v S & that at this point he wouldn't do so - Parliament has resumed without any Auckland-based MP (Moana Pasifika)'s so that would seem to be precedent-setting. Might be some late call ups for non-Blues players!

Understandable decision if it comes to pass. But I think it's safe to say that would lead to the NI pack taking a bit of a beating. Can bring in Tu'u and Kirifi to negate the damage to the loosies but the tight-forwards would be in trouble.....

Wasn't clear from a cursory Instagram stalk, but Scrafton may still live in Auckland, so could also be ruled out.

Indeed, the match itself could become a bit lop sided. I mean, McKenzie at first-five and Hunt at fullback is nightmare material.

As things are looking, Auckland must now have a decent chance to be able to host the inter-Island match with a full crowd as originally planned. But it's probably easier to move it to Wellington instead where a crowd must surely be guaranteed at this point.

Must also be looking good for the involvement of all Auckland-based players too.
