I asked the same question was told he was too busy playing for manly league team but easily won the joeys sprints at their track day. I will be interested to get a look at mcgregor some time this year I haven't seen that much of him and when I have he hasn't blown me away. He has a great kick but I'd like to see more options in attack as I say I'd happily be proved wrong. The one who could challenge both England and mcgregor is Tom wright but he needs to muscle up a lot more in defence if be ever wants to step up to that company he has potential though.

Maybe your right, but the one time that anyone would genuinely think that England played better was in an absolute bog behind a huge pack going forward..any conditions that don't require a snorkel to play in McGregor has been head and shoulders..one of my scouts in QLD tells me McGregor ripped QLD apart and England got time off the bench in the centres..but you might be right..seems most selectors have seen it differently.
at Gordon McGregor showed his skill as a pivot and distributor having some great options outside him.... in Hutcho or give it to Hurly
at NSW we could see he had more options in Hawko, Porter, Sapessa or Hurly
the score-lines the previous days showed England used his outside backs well

McGregor wont get a reserve jumper as there are two streams available and selections wont have to identify which of the fly halves they think is better

I edited this after reading it this morning and realising the expression used previously was juvenile and churlish.

at Gordon McGregor ripped it up with his brilliant ability to ... Give it to Hutcho or give it to Hurly
at NSW we could see he had a much more diverse game because there he could .. give it to Hawko or give it to Porter or give it to Sapessa or give it to Hurly

McGregor will be saved from the embarrassment of a reserve jumper when Sydney selectors pick England as their first choice as they will need a good 10

best answered on the field. will be a great trial. mcgregor on one side england the other both behind good packs and good backs outside them. better player goes in. simple. no excuses.

Given GPS (Presidents) are likely to have two teams in the tourny I would guess neither will be a reserve. I would think the player most likely to get the NSW schools Jumper may be in Presidents 1st team if there is indeed such a beast. Selectors at Sydney will have the choice of one of last years NSW 10s or none

selectors will be saved by not having to make a real decision

In any case I've never been a fan of boys playing above their age it is an ego trip.
That's not always true and depends on the circumstances in which a kid is nominated by his school, invited and then elects to go.
There are reasons other than ego for going.

Pretty sure McGregor played NSW schools 16's last year and he didn't play in state champs this year due to 1st XV commitments at view, so there was no match up at the gf last week. So it would be fair to assume that they will ultimately end up both playing in the national 16's at 10 for sjru and schools.

Interesting to see how GPS trials go on the weekend, backs are fairly predictable but look for some dark horses in the forwards.

Any ideas on selction policy. Presidents A 1st XV then Presidents B 1st XV then reserves would be the normal process I would imagine. Prindiville is out with a leg issue incurred when playing in State Championships is my understanding. He has been in terrific form this year.

Agree gps 16s potentially very strong. There are some boys playing opens like sepesa, kennewell at new and Hutchinson, mcgregor at view. Scots have some good new lads. Joeys a very strong 16 side. 10 will be tough pick I'd go for dan England at scots over mcgregor and behind them tom wright at joeys. I don't see a stand out 9. Dylan Grant at joeys should grab a wing spot, plays good hard footy and I'm told fastest boy in the whole school, hutch, mcgregor, sepesa, Kennewell, porter from scots and Eddie King from joeys will all stake claims in the backs. depends on whether some of the boys get chosen in opens doubt any would play 1s or 2s but some could sneak a 3s spot.
I feel as though that Mcgregor has the knowleadge to be picked. He is playing above and beyond. It is evident that he is a contender for the number 10 jersey. I see Tom wright being a unwelcomed threat against England and McGregor. Though England has been playing at peak and is still in contention very much for the position. Knock On I think that Mcgregor will get it though in my books.

For whatever it's worth the backline for president's A I believe, will be:

15. Cepesa
14. Kennewell (sorry if I spelt it wrong)
13. Hutchinson
12. Porter
11. Hurley
10. McGregor
9. Travers

There seems to be a lot of discussion about a few players i.e. McGregor and England - the battle of the Fly-Halves.

This is a pretty "two pronged" discussion, insofar as there are two different relevant topics that are worthy of discussion. On the one hand you have who WILL get in, and on the other who SHALL. The argument that is taking place at the moment seems to be the latter.

In terms of who will be picked - I think it is fairly unanimous that Jack McGregor will get in. In addition to being in the NGS, and the Riverview 1st XV, his most relevant accolade is the fact that he was a reserve for the NSW Schools Under 16 team last year. This is increasingly pertinent when you realise that that particular representative level is yet another grade above the GPS side. Most are able to deduce that, if he was good enough for the level ABOVE in the age group below, then he will be good enough for the level below in his own age group. This in and of itself settles this discussion.

However, in regards to the 2nd aspect of this argument, who SHOULD get in.
In an obvious and similarly congruent way I believe that who SHOULD get in is who WILL get in i.e. Jack McGregor. I have no particular need to justify this position, I think everyone has already made the arguments I would have made, but if it is worth anything I believe he has a superb control over the game. It is almost a compliment that some of you haven't noticed him (as has been made apparent by your comments) as that implies that he didn't make any mistakes. Fundamentally, a Fly-Half simply can't be making mistakes, and the fact that you didn't notice him would certainly imply his mistakes were minimal, if not non-existent. The most important job of being a fly-half is to distribute the ball effectively, and control the game. The latter can be achieved with an effective all round skill set, and in all of these areas I think Jack ticks the boxes. There are a number of different styles of Fly-Half, the controlling type like Dan Cater or Stephen Larkham, or the more flamboyant type like Quade Cooper, Carlos Spencer, or Mark Ella. Both styles have their merits, but in situations where there are amazing, if not better players in the back line the latter can be far and away the most useful. I would (with some hesitation) argue Jack's style fits into the former of the two categories specified, insofar as it is not overly flamboyant and is largely effective at controlling the game.

The majority of arguments made against him tend to come from two places. Firstly performance in the 2012 State championship finals, and performance for Riverview 13, 14, 15 A's (over the years). In both instances I would deny he played badly, but EVEN IF he did, they were in situations where the team he was in was thoroughly outplayed, or (especially in the instance of the latter) where the forward pack were simply outmuscles providing next to no platform for ball. As I clarified before I don't think he has ever necessarily been outplayed, but certainly in situations where he hasn't lived up to the hype that surrounds him they are more than likely because of team errors.
What supports this is an argument raised earlier that describes how well he played for the NSW State team in the Under 15's in a situation where neither the team nor the forward pack were not performing, as has been the case in the situations people are criticising him for. In this GPS side, there will be a similar situation as he will have amazing talent around him, where his ability as a distributor and general controller of the game will become apparent.

To change the subject just a little, there is a considerable amount of rubbish being posted here. For instances, the person who tried to talk up Dylan Grant as running under 11's better take his lies elsewhere. This forum is no place for the boarding house bandits of any school (i.e. Riverview, Joeys) or perhaps the Day Students who put their parents money to waste by spending their time on the forums on their laptops while their unfortunate teacher wastes time trying to teach them something. Just remember we are talking about 16 year old boys here who go to school to learn, not to play rugby.
If you want to encourage a mate, or try to defend him, by all means, but if doing so requires you to blatantly lie, or attack others, don't associate with us more mature people who are above that.

I realise I have written far too much, if anyone has any questions about my selections so far don't hesitate to reply, but just don't speak in an angry tone, I am just offering my opinion.

I think we can all agree that regardless of the team GPS put up, they will defeat CAS very soundly.

Who are you mcgregor's father? Yes he's a solid player. But this is ludicrous: never makes mistakes and if he does it is his team mates fault! What does he walk on water too? For what it is worth it is a toss of the coin between your boy and England. Neither of whom are very exciting frankly but reliable and as there are no stand out take your breath away fly halves in this age neither of these kids will do a bad job but writing an essay about mcgregor (especially if he's not your kid) is sort of strange for a (assumedly) grown man.

12) TELENOTI MOATA’ANE – ST DOMS

No parents at today's trial knew who this kid was.
In what year were St Doms admitted to the AAGPS (Or is this something like state of origin where they nominate your first high school)?
Good to see a couple of Grammar kids - answering the question as to whether GPS selectors would consider boys from there given that they are only playing other AAGPS school's C's.

Re 12, I would put money on him being a transitional scholarship holder at either Newington or Kings! If it is the same boy, he was very strong. Cameron King unlucky to not be No. 8 in 1st Xv. Some surprising decisions.

Newington in their 2nd XV was the scuttlebut.
WTF is a "transitional scholarship holder"?
