Random,

With the greatest of respect i believe you have not given any consideration to any of the CHS or CCC lads.

For those at last years under 16 NSW schools championship these two associations performed beyond anybody's expectation and actually delivered 8 players to the eventual squad of 23.

From my recollection only 1 ISA player was selected; no CAS lads; and the rest were GPS!

My Predictions!

After its trials last week CHS have chosen a preliminary squad of 40, however there are a few players who I believe will make it through to the final team, and therefore are lads to watch! The first is Jordan Lotoaniu of Bass HS (affectionately known ‘Dog Pound’ for obvious reasons) and Luciano Leluia of Endeavour SHS. Lotoaniu played in the HM Cup this year for the Bulldogs, and Leluia in the same competition for the Dragons. Leluia is the younger brother of the current Roosters NRL player. Like his older brother he too is a great athlete. Lotoaniu is in the same category.

In addition as stated in the NSWCCC 2012 thread, the U/16 team is loaded with talent, especially rugby talent. In particular watch out for Milad Ferris (current ARU/JGS member and U/15 SJRU 2011 rep); Brock Hammond current ARU/JGS and U/16 CJRU 2012 rep); Sukamanu Raki (Roosters Harold Matthews 2011 and U/15 SJRU MWZ 2011 rep); Scott Hogan (Parramatta HMC 2012 and U/16 NSWCCC Rugby 2011 rep); and Topiese Taufa (St George Harold Matthews 2012).

I personally am very interested in seeing how Taufa fairs. He attends Marist College Kogarah, which interestingly is the same school as Michael Morgan (the only NSWCCC player to make last year’s NSW Schools team). I actually watched Taufa perform at the NSWCCC League trials on the weekend where he was selected in the ‘U/18 Metropolitan Catholic Colleges’ team at ‘Centre’ (MCC were the eventual runner-up). For a lad who is still an U/16 this is quite an achievement given the strength of the CCC league system. What really stood out for me at the Rugby (and also League) trials was his size (approx. 186cm), power and speed!

I predicted Morgan and Seana before the NSWSRU Championship last year; this year it is Ferris and Taufa and/or Leluia as smokies!

anyone in those league comps should be made to sign a deed agreeing to repay money spent on him if plays league once he leaves school.

IS,

At this level Rugby has made no (or little investment) in such players! Unless it does more to attract such talent Australia at the senior levels of rugby will continue to struggle!

I for one am seriously tired and fed up with the Wallabies having its ass handed to itself by the Allblacks every year! Nevertheless I believe the ARU is now trying to rectify this issue (i.e. all the talent moving to league).

What i will now share was passed on to me in confidence and therefore I cannot share the names of those involved in what I will now state! I recently became aware of a very high profile junior from league being approached by a high profile person in Rugby and given assurances that if he were to come across to Rugby he could be guaranteed a position in one of Australian Schools teams!

Regrettably for Rugby this lad is on his way to being selected in the Australian Schoolboys team for league and i seriously doubt if he would take up the offer that was put to him. And please when i say regrettably, i mean it as i got to see this lad play rugby and he was devastating.

As stated above I cannot share names but I hope you will take my word as i beleive i do have a good reputation in this site, and the information I shared before has come to fruition.

We agree on the ARU's lamentable performance in this area.
Im not sure it can be addressed while ever Union in Sydney (The same may be true of Brisvegas for all I know) is perceived as a game played only, or even predominantly, by the private schools.
Frankly, I'm even more horrified that a promise of selection in an Oz schools team could be made to anyone by a single person claiming to have the power to bring it about. if they don't have the power they shouldn't say it and if they do its a snub to all the kids trying hard to get there within the paths established by the ARU.

Harsh - many boys play both codes at this age. I doubt if such a deed would be enforceable but I am not a solicitor.

In the Opens though I would be all for choosing others if a lad (or his parents on his behalf) has signed a league contract and others are roughly of the same standard.

Harsh - many boys play both codes at this age - and your plan would be unenforceable anyway.

In the Opens though I would be all for choosing others if a lad (or his parents on his behalf) has signed a league contract and others are roughly of the same standard.
.
Its not unenforceable it just depends how you structure it

I edited my post whilst you were making yours but I couldn't see a court enforcing it however structured. They could find it unconscionable to lock in a 15/16 year old boy to a particular sport, as it goes against the very nature of what sport is supposed to be for.

And just imagine what a family would do when forced to sign such a deed.

IS,

Please read my post carefully. The person to whom I refer does have the authority!

With respect to 'snubbing' I will respectfully disagree with you here; in support I will make reference to the story of current Wallaby 'Rob Horne'!

Lee,

Without getting overly legalistic there is no correct answer to enforceability. It depends on the individual circumstances of each contract and whether or not it complies with the NSW 'Minors (Contracts & Property) Act 1970.

Don't get sanctimonious and at least read your own post before accusing me of not reading it: you do not say he had authority you say he was "high profile". In rugby more than in any other human endeavour I have encountered many people talk the talk and very few can walk the walk: high profile does not equate with powerful and since you have taken to giving legal advice: high profile does not equate with authority to bind the ASRFU or the ARU.
No that that was my point in any event: I was writing hypothetically in order to demonstrate that if what you say happened in fact happened it didn't much matter what were the true circumstances he was either a liar or not fit to be given the power to promise the kid anything.
I do love a good mystery but I haven't read "The Rob Horne Story" - can you get it on kindle?

Be that as it may Newbie - but imagine what a family would do if confronted with having to be party to such a deed before a boy ran out on the field for his U/16 season.

Many of them wouldn't be running out on the field - not in the union code.

What does union gain by them playing for one or two seasons: the only reason parents wouldn't sign is because they have no intention of their son playing union. If so they're just clogging up the development works and taking development dollars that might be better directed elsewhere. I mean, these are kids who have already shown a fair level of commitment to mungoes.

I havent had a chance to see many of the CHS or CCC boys (besides last years game vs Queensland) and in that game none of them really stood out for me, Jono Burke and Johnnie Walker the expections who are now at Kings and Augstines respectively. Of the team i named all the Joeys boys bar Glasson, Vevres, Hosea and Kane were unable to play due to injury or not playing club footy and i believe are all good enough to make it this year. How about i say that i think the 17 boys i named plus Burke will make the squad, with the other 5 or so spots to be taken by CHS or CCC boys !
