A few remarks about the Twos and reserves:
Twos (the players starting in the Twos are rated higher than the reserves in the Ones)
- Front row - a very good Twos front row though Orr should pick up his work rate.
- 2nd row - undistinguished in my eyes
- backrow - excellent for a Twos team: Murphy for his on-balling and linking, O'Donahue for his allround skill including lineout work and Hemopo for his running in traffic - and often out the other side.
9. Ferris - I have a mental block with this young man. My pick would have been Lussick.
10. Tulloch - had an excellent game in the wind and was probably the best flyhalf of the day. This won't bring him much luck as I said the same thing about Deegan on Tuesday and he got dropped. Nor did Deegs get a stint in the Ones as I predicted with some confidence; nor did he get in the NSW 46.
Wingers - Jones and stepper Taylor. Jones would have been picked in the Ones if they didn't choose a fullback and a centre on the wings. He had a good week.
15. Porch - one of the best CHS backs and can play in the centres too. Good at setting up others.

23. Brown - would have started in the Twos had not the Ones used players who trialled in other positions. Good player.

16. Faigata'a and 17. Vea - know how to run through folks
22. HCR - glad he got in the NSW outfit somewhere - may have been ranked higher if he played fullback in the trials.

IMO the unluckiest non selection of the day, should have been named as a starter in the II's at worst.
Thank goodness he will at least get a run with the CS squad, I would assume.

Tulloch was good in the IIIs on Tuesday and was brilliant on a windy day yesterday in the IIs.
In hindsight I think that the NSW selectors wanted to see both Tulloch and Deegan play in the IIs and asked the GPS selectors to give them a turn each.
I asked one of the GPS III coaches before the game yesterday about why Deegan was playing in the IIIs and he said he was as surprised as anybody.
There was no doubt about Tulloch's merit yesterday though and Deegs didn't have his best game.
Deegan is back next year and who knows - he could get a CS gig this year.

Now that the selections debate has simmered down a tad, perhaps one could pose the following queries for your consideration, (notwithstanding the sometimes Cerise & Blue eyeshadow employed from time to time !) as you seem to be a fond observer of such matters ( along with many others on this forum):
1. Any idea how many Yr11 boys in the 2 squads ? ( ie, what might 2013 hold in store for us all)
2. Do you think that Stewart & Moerea’s absence so far will be detrimental to their forthcoming matches – in so far as they will now be a couple of matches behind their team mates ( and presumably their opposition, too) ?
3. It was interesting to hear ( from a generally reliable source) that the GPS 1’s coach identified these 2 as their first pick choice for GPS 1’s – but their absence allowed Foketi & Milne a shot;
4. I suspect it unlikely that Matt Sandell will pass the physical tomorrow – with Natoli also under an injury cloud, after the way he hobbled off yesterday – didn’t look too good from where I was perched.( hope he make sit though – he does bring the X-factor as you opined).Any others under an injury cloud that you know of ?
5. One presumes that McIntyre’s inclusion at F/B allows the coach some flexibility & coverage – with he being able to cover 10 & Kellaway able to cover 15 ? (Don’t recall McIntyre’s performance last year – but a learned country chap nearby to us yesterday was effusive in his praise of the young man’s ability)
6. Given that last year’s QLD teams basically dished it out to the 2 NSW teams ( although the NSW2’s nearly upset the applecart with a boil over win on the Friday night against the Qld 1’s…but stumbled at the last hurdle) - do you see much improvement in ability of these 2 NSW teams compared to last year ?
7. Not knowing how many of last years QLD teams are backing up, or what the status of the QLD teams selections etc is at present – can any of our Northern brethren enlighten us on how things might be travelling ?? I presume Tuttle will be back again ( and if he was the centre in last year’s U16 carnival at View f Qld Red ( I think) – he certainly is an impressive player to watch !).
8. What are you thoughts on the 3 loosies - when comparing to Wells & co from last year's 1's ?

I saw him with a bunch of old SJC guys heading from yesterdays test heading up the hill to Paddington. He was a gibberer at that stage. Maybe the underpants on the outside was a statement. I don't know.

1. I'm not the one to ask who are the Yr.11 boys picked in the NSW teams - the schoolboys on the forum would have a better idea.
2. Stewart and Moeroa will be underdone? Could be especially in the case of Stewart who hasn't played for a while (was his last game the trial against Joeys?), but I'm guessing there's a bit of opposed training between the Is and the IIs to get the cobwebs out.
3. I can believe that, but if I were going to pick those two if they didn't trial I would have picked the Newington centres together and Stewart with Foketi, and not cared too much which team they played for. But they ended up putting Milne on the wing anyway.
4. I know of no other injuries.
5. McIntyre's best moment last year was when he came off the bench to replace Debreczini as flyhalf for Oz Schools v NZ Schools at Knox last year. He made his mark then as a big match player and the NSW selectors probably had a "put him in the XV somewhere" asterisk next to his name.
6. I can never tell how NSW teams are going to play and when I think I do I am usually wrong. I remember being particularly wrong about both the NSW and Qld Ones teams in the 2006 Oz Championships. Beale was the flyhalf of one and Cooper the flyhalf of the other and both teams had some handy players and I couldn't wait for the final. But both Twos teams beat the Ones team of the other state and ended up playing each other in the final instead.
Yet all the Ones players ended up getting selected in the Oz Ones school team.
7. Yeah Tuttle is a special player. I thought he was the player of the U/16 tournament last year. He has it all. They play him at 12 but he has the pass of a schoolboy Larkham at 1st receiver and runs as fast as a winger. Loves a tackle too. If, unlike most of the Queensland U/16 backs of 2011, he stays in our code, he will have a huge future in rugby union.
8. The backrow compared to last year? 8. Whitely is similar to Wells in type but Wells was a harder player IMO and had more involvements. 7. Broome was one of my favourites last year so it's a no brainer for me. 6. Dempsey this year above Calagno. 2 out of 3 better for 2011 The Twos are complicated because Dempsey was the 6 in it last year, but I would rate the 2012 Twos better.

SC, I also feel your angst here on a number of issues. I think with the centres one deserves the right of compassionate leave. The other was watched intensely by all on Friday jogging about.
GPS lll's to NSW. I am not going there
A No 6 that is a No 4 that showed he is a 6.^ As above.

As i stated i would only return to this forum if need be. How on this earth did the "manbear" get chosen over the "manswine" this is like robin having the star role in a batman movie. It doesnt make sence! i am truly annoyed with this selection i dont possibly see what the selectors find positive in the "manbears" game other than his size. he doesnt play as hard as tom robertson and i feel compelled to start calling him the "teddybear".
This is in no way a personal attack on opl as a player i am just puzzled as to how the best schoolboy prop in australia and the strongest(gym based) in over a decade has been left outside of the nsw 1s side

A previous national junior coach recently told me that if the selectors have to choose between two similarly skilled, or even a player with slightly superior skills, then the player who is bulkier/heavier/taller will always get the nod......"that's how selections are now'' was the quote....your above puzzle is solved....it could also possibly be applies to Wylde & McCalman.......both players are not big boys but their work rates are well above their relative size
