Newbie - shame to see your roughie standout from last season [Titterton] not get back to SJRU 17s. Only saw a bit of him and he looked like he was carrying the entire forward pack on his shoulders. Do you have last year's SJRU 16s list to compare the 2 teams?

Team is:
...
Tyson Davies - Not listed anywhere in the program
...

Anyone know the story here - a few other names in the programm didn't play & didn't get picked (J Clarke springs to mind). Was Davies in the squad last year; did he play and his omission from the programm is an admin error?

Remiss of me, you're entirely correct! Played his heart out against Randwick from my recollection!

Clearly the selectors were looking for something quite different! Without wanting to cast aspersions is it not amazing how the flavour of the team tends to reflect the coach! History is rife with such examples!

The team lineup for the 2011 fixture against country is at

and it appears that there are a few other omissions from last year's squad

Lachy Taylor performed really well and has been in great club form too. He was a shoe in IMO but as I said a couple of days ago, it was my understanding that selectors were going to ignore carded players!

With regard to the Wicks #13 (and #12) they should have been there too. Was the 13 carded in the Uni game? I didn't see this TBH.
Not in the Wicks v Uni game but in our semi against Warringah. Unfortunate for the kid as he was a standout

We all know the team that has been picked is a good one.

However the relationship to the performances on the weekend is not that strong.

Mitchell may or may not be as good as Tepai or Milne - but this was his chance to shine away from them. He did.North south 2 reps for making the semis - and as per post above 161 - one of them had limited game time. Also other rumors on these pages of boys who didn't play all the games -the Cam Orr ball boy post - getting picked. These players are probably really good - but it's a clear message to the fringe players isn't it? Very clear.

Only one team had more players picked then the team who conceded the most points and never won a game.

I think we should be recommending to the u16s NOT TO PARTICIPATE in this event. If they are not in school firsts or already jgs/ngs.

Is that the correct conclusion?

I think this pathway is for kids who's only Rugby is the village scene.
If you play in this tournament, then this should be your pathway of choice.i.e. you are not eligible for the Schools pathway.
IMO it should not be the back up plan for kids who miss out through the Schools pathway, in the next few weeks.

Newbie - a question for you.
Following the logic of your posts 141 and 160.

This kid Mitchell. We know he is playing school just say he also plays SG Ball and is doing his HSC this year.

Everyone on this thread thinks he was great on the weekend. What do you say to him BEFORE the weekend? Please follow the logic of your 160 post.

Also he is a back, what about those Northsouth front rowers that everyone is talking about today?

Rugby,

I don't really know what you're asking of me here to be honest with you, however i will note the following.

As unfair as this lad's non-selection was, it is not the first, nor is it going to be the last! Over the years SJRU have been notorious for controversial selections (and conversely non-selections). Perusing the pages on this site will confirm this point!

As I said in earlier post pertaining to this lad Mitchell, "cream will always rise to the top; eventually". Perseverance is the key word for the lad now! He is good, but he will need to get better if he wants to be considered to be in the same company as Milne and Moeroa.

I agree. Cream rises to the top and all that. But dont perservere at this event. Perservere somewhere else.
To play 5 games in 3 days in the mud seemed like a waste of time. Not including the high risk of injury.
Once again we all know the players selected are good. That is not the question. The point is that the relevance of anyone's performance on the weekend is low or very very low.
At this event you can concede 90 points lose every game and dominate forward selections or concede 2 tries,as per the Northsouth post above and basically have no one picked. Wests had the most forwards selected!

Another Q: where is the under 15s regionals being played? Congrats to Warringah, were awesome.[/quote]

I am a Gordon supporter & agree that Warringah's forwards played very well in the wet (understatement!) conditions to peg back an early 8 nil deficit.

The under 15s regionals are being played at Grantham Reserve, Blacktown on 30/6 & 1/7.

Given the MNZ team comprises 12 of the Warringah winning team and 11 of the Gordon runners up, I suspect that they will be quite formidable. A number of the boys from the respective teams have also trained together in the JGS.

Rugby I do not disagree with you here! Please read my post at #165, in particular the second paragraph mate!

I am not biased against the players.
Also I am not biased against the selectors.
The players selected are good I have said that a number of times. The selectors are generally unpaid and are the real servants of the game.
They should be applauded for there efforts.
I hope that's clear.

My point is that the players should not be encouraged to play 3 to 5 gamemeaningless weekend.

It's the u17 "championship" event that has no value.

What was the card for ? Newbie are you sure they didn't choose players because of cards? In the past I haven't seen players not chosen because of a card
