Hmmm. Old fool, I am, I've read the form guide, multiple times, and with glasses on and off. And I'll eat those glasses if either Alo's or Cranbrook, finish in the top 3. Peeps, do it for the last three years. And look at the returning players.

As far as I am aware, the Cranbrook side from this year had 8 boys who where in the 1XV all year who aren't in year 12 and I think 2 boys who were frequent features off the bench and from the 2XV. Obviously this doesn't necessarily mean that next year's team will be great but it is certainly a positive for Cranbrook. Talk of a wooden spoon for Cranners might be a bit misplaced.....

I believe that Barker only had about 4 year 10 & 11 boys ever in the starting lineup. Dion Yaz, Lachlan Hooper, Aidan Galloway and occasionally Tom Rodham.

I think you need to add Joel Kardash who started in the 1st 15, and of course Ned Slack Smith who was 1st 15 last year in Y10 and spent this year on oranges w knee injury

Ok, let’s look at the facts. The 1st xv’s of 2021, have all played each other over the years from the 13’s onwards. Waverley in that age group have never lost a match. They will have a lot of boys who have played 1st XV already, with a sprinkling of 2nds and 3rds from this year and a couple of 16’s. They deserve to start the year as favourites.
Knox in that age group have only ever lost to one team, Waverley. They will have about 5 back from this years 1st’s, together with other boys from the 2nds, a very competent 16a’s and a couple returning from injury. Anyone that thinks Alo’s, Trinity or Cranbrook have a better chance than them next year have never read a form guide. Alo’s have lost by 30 plus points in every year in this age group since 2016 to Waves, Knox and no doubt Barker. Knox, IMHO, deserve to be 2nd favourites, alongside Barker, who have lots of boys coming back next year, and again, a very competent 16a’s.

There’s my thoughts on next years top 3......the proof will be in the pudding.

Spot On. I think your pudding will be eaten with custard and ice cream Axe. Waves are deserved favourites with lots returning and a pretty dominant 16As. Knox should threaten also with lots returning and a few capable 16As pushing through. Barker will be interesting, the're always competitive with the current regime, but next years Y12 are not one of the strongest across recent seasons, but the 2011 Y11 group is a strong group - they could surprise. I can't see Aloys, Canners or Trinity threatening, although of the three, Cranbrook look most likely. Dunno what to make of Trinity next year - only saw the Barker games this year which were arm wrestles in the 1st and 2nds and really could have gone either way, but 16As was a cricket score.

With all respect, he is an excellent player especially after only coming from football two years ago. But competition for the back row is going to be tight, with Aidan Galloway, Ned Slack-Smith, the 2nds openside (not too sure of his name) and a few year 11s

Early predictions 2021

1/ Waverley
2/ Knox
3/ Barker
4/ Trinity
5/ Cranbrook
6/ Alo’s

Predicted Waverley 1stXV 2021

1/ Smith 1st XV
2/ Sullivan 1st XV
3/ Fuka 16 As
4/ Halaholo 1st XV
5/ Jahnke-Tavana 1st XV
6/ Kapos 2nd XV
7/ Elder 3rd XV
8/ King 1st XV
9/ Martin 16As
10/ Worthington 2nd XV
11/ Towns 16As
12/ Dimovitch 1st XV
13/ ???
14/
15/ Di Bartolo 1st XV

A few eyebrows raised with some of these selections. Starting from the top 1 and 2 pick themselves 2020 seen them better all of their competition both products of undefeated 2019 16As. They will certainly miss Dunning and staff may have their work cut out to find a replacement. Fuka with a bit of off season tuition will be the answer in my opinion. Strong , mobile and great carrier of the ball.
4 and 5 also pick themselves and I feel we are looking at future internationals in a few years time also products of 16As 2019.

6 Kapos is also mobile and strong and very good in the tight stuff he has been out standing in the 2nds this year and if he has a good off season he will be in the mix. 2019 16As
7 Elder another product of the 2019 16As who I really like. He is great over the ball and will do all he can to get his team plenty of turnovers.
8 King a complete power house another product of the 2019 16As spent a bit of time with 1s also that year and a 2020 1st XV starter in every game.

I have gone for Martin over Thorn. Martin offers more than Thorn who spent 2020 in 2nds after being the incumbent from 2019.
i have watch Martin over the past 2 seasons and expect him to push hard for 9.

10 Di Bartolo moves to 15 to make room for Worthington who is selected on work rate and game management, a huge reason for 2020 2nds success.

11 Towns gets this spot because of his speed and rugby IQ
12 Dimovitch is a returnee of 2020 1st XV will be a more rounded player next season.
13 This is a position that will be up for grabs in 2021 no one really stands out so an opportunity is there.
14 Same as above
15 Di Bartolo reads the game well and would be worth his weight in gold directing from the back.

please remember just my opinion I probably have a few selections wrong and am only going from what I have seen over the past 3 seasons of 16s and opens rugby.

Are you sure all these players will be returning next season, i believe quite a few of these boys are in year 12 which means they are unavailable for the 2021 CAS season,

King Regards,
Knowledge
No I’m pretty sure I have it right from my reliable informant that all will be attending Waverley in 2021

ZHC, interesting call I must say. let me inform you of the cranbrook class of 2021 history in the 16A’s and returning players.

C V B; 7-19 loss at barker. Late try from barker to seal the win. Had a definite shot at winning the game
C V K: 19-17 loss at cranbrook. Missed conversion at the buzzer to not get the tie. Intercept try to give Knox the lead.
C v W: 17-24 loss at Death Valley. Waverley playing kids who were in year 11 at the time. Leading 10-7 at the half to a team who had never lost and are the clear favourites this year.
C v T 10-40 win at hordern. To put trinity above cranbrook considering they beat them by this much in the 16A’s and this year in the firsts baffles me
C V A 5-30 win. Easy win

Cranbrook with 8 starting player this year in the first who will be returning next year with 2/3 normal run ons from the bench also returning. I think the brook gets overlooked this season. Strongest players from Waverley 16A’s side are either leaving the school due to them being in year 12 or leaving the school because they felt like it.

You are now informed.

Cranbrook also has some very good players who were out this year - Injured I believe? I presume they will be back next year.

Good to see some predicted teams and ladders being tossed around the new forum page nice and early, by the sounds of it we have a good season to look forward to. As usual Waves will be the favourites followed by barker and the likes of Cranners being thrown in the top 3 doesn't surprise me after seeing their results in the 16As coming close to beating Waves (who were undefeated since year 7) as well as the amount of year 11 boys I saw take the field down at Summer Hill earlier this season who pretty much carried the rest of the team in order to get a good win against Trinity. Don't know too much about Aloys, Trinity or Knox but as always every team will put up a fight each game that is played.

Hmmm. @Informant and @Chilli Rugby, nothing new in either of your posts at all.

Did either of you two, see the Waverley 16As match back in 2019? I did in person, from the grandstand. Waverley played their worse game across their whole CAS age group matches 2016-2019, their attitude on the day was not up to scratch that morning. That happens to the best of teams, they don't turn up mentally on the day, the opposition is pumped and they lose. Well, that day, 27th July 2019, 9am kickoff on QP1, the Waves boys didn't turn up, Cranbrook was pumped, but still the Waves won:) Previous year in the 15As, 28th July 2018 12pm kickoff, also on QP1, Waves won 77-0.

Then this year, 18th July at Dangar. The Cranbrook 16As didn't even play the Waves 16As, at Cranbrook's request they had a non-contact opposed training session starting at 1pm! The Cranbrook 3rds didn't want to play Waverley, so no game there! The Waves 2nds won 31-12. The Waves 1sts just missed 50, with a 46-17 win.

Hardly encouraging signs for 2021 guys ;) I still have Brook finishing outside of the top 3 ;-)

Gentlemen,

Good to be back.

Cranbrook will be competitive next year, and would not be surprised if they can even steal an upset over any of the main trio (Knox, Barker, Waves).

Here's a look at the Waverley 1st XV squad for 2021

1. Reeve Smith
2. Darcy Sullivan
3. AJ Pereketes
4. Clem Haloholo/Spencer Kapos
5. Fritz HJ
6. Clem Haloholo/Alex Elder/Niel Fuka
7. Alex Elder/Patrick Hoggett
8. Ethan King
9. Klayton Thorn/Tom Martin
10. Emmanuel Di Bartolo/Charlie Worthington
11. Dane Towns/Ronan Schocher/TJ Speedy-Coe
12. Aaron Dimovitch/Charlie Worthington
13. Jack Hickey/Aaron Dimovitch
14. Dane Towns/Ronan Schocher/TJ Speedy-Coe
15. Dane Towns/Emmanuel Di Bartolo

Strong team again for the Waves again in 2021, arguably the strongest in a while. While I think the team will be a combination of the above players, no doubt there will be some smokeys that emerge during the long pre-season down at Queens Park.

High expectations for the Waves in 2021, if they can get the attitude side of things right, I tip them to go back-to-back.

An interesting take on @informant's message, I believe he wasn't challenging waves through Cranbrook but merely saying there is a high likelihood of them taking on Knox and replacing the infamous trio. I think next time you post a message as a reply, you should read into exactly what they are saying.

2021 CAS 1st XV Ladder prediction

1. Waverley - I think they will be close to untouchable this season, however it will be interesting to see how they will replace players like Volkman and Swann in their backline. (Have heard Di Bartolo and King are repeating year 12. can anybody confirm??)

2. Barker - Always solid, not sure how many they have returning but are always strong and will welcome Slack-Smith back to be their leader

3. Knox - Strong current year 11 base, especially with Jack Black in the scrum, with some good 16s to fill the gaps

4. Alo's - tough year for alo's this year, but from what I have heard they have over 10 boys returning to the first xv including 2 year 10 players who looked promising this year .

5. Cranbrook - Another strong group year 11s led by their number 10, fighting with alo's for the 4th spot.

6. Trinity - Have gone downhill recently, limited numbers, the loss of year 12s such as Hawkes will be too big to overcome

2021 should be a great, hoping to get a full season out of these teams.
Up the WICKS!!!!

**I hope this business with the schoolboys on this forum gets sorted out sooner rather than later**

RM

Think you're on the money with you're prediction.
Barker have some good depth coming through.
Aloys will be much stronger and with 10 plus returning will be much more competitive.
The Colonel will help to build up their strength over the off season.

Best

TC
