NSW CAS Rugby 2021

WLF

Arch Winning (36)
They were scheduled to play end of term 1 but was rained out. waverly would have came out on top most likely as 3 forwards and 3 backs were out

But i do commend waverly quite well structured but could get more disciplined

Timmy, give it up, you have NO idea!
Keep studying my man, it's Waverley.

Timmy, you are VERY wrong re Waverley, this team has been together for many years, so don't try to blow it off so easily, and make it up to suit your purpose, it's a real shame View won't be playing the Waves for once, if you ask your View team members, they will probably set you straight.
Suspect you would get a shock if both schools played each other.

since year 7 the 2021 class @view has always beaten waverly throughout the years

Nope. Incorrect, in 16as Waves beat View twice, which at the sharp end of an age group counts, this year there would be absolutely no doubt.
eg, this year in the 1s, View beat Kings 12-10, Waves beat Kings 53-22, Knox beat View, Waves beat Knox 38-14.
You are delusional.

The class of Odonnel will be outplayed by his CAS opponent Wood. And I just dont see the NSW 1s centre pairing not being the aloys centres in bruton and wood, both likely to be selected in aus schoolboys

Part of me thinks that everyone should just cool it for a while, because the idiocy is getting out of hand.

But here's my five cents on Wood, whom I watched with interest last Saturday. He ran a lot, although a lot of that was before he reached the defensive line, as Aloysius ran back kicks (especially in the second half, when they were into the wind and saw little benefit in kicking themselves). His try was well taken: he saw a gap, showed quick thinking to take it, and had the foot speed to finish it off. His one-on-one defence was OK; St Aloysius were pretty porous out wide at times but it was more a matter of structures letting them down than individuals missing tackles. So he had a good game. But he certainly didn't dominate: and ideally, you want your CAS 1sts 13 to be a player who can beat a set defensive line, and make yards after contact. Those weren't obviously features of his game on Saturday. He's quite an old-fashioned 13, looking to beat players on the outside rather than acting as a battering ram. He looks most dangerous in broken play (though he's not alone there).

Which leaves things where? He's obviously a very good player who can be quick and evasive. If he were picked in CAS 1sts he wouldn't be out of place. But I suspect there may be one or two more damaging runners out there. I haven't seen Dimovitch this year so can't make the comparison.

Apologies if all that is a bit analytical and, you know, sane.

However unpopular this opinion is (bit of a grey area), I do agree Baxter.

Woodsy is a phenomenal ball runner frequently punching above his weight. Although less impressive overall, Brutan's selection is justified when considering the existing chemistry and consequently crisp combination between him and Wood, having played together for several years now. Collectively, they will do well to contain odonnell, as well as challenging him on offence, come their imminent CAS selection.

Do you want to know what the biggest threat will be for Waverley when they play Cranbrook tomorrow?

Themselves

Waverley always rise to the occasion when playing strong teams - it appears to be part of their DNA from what I have seen over the years. When they play - what appears on paper - to be an inferior team, they will become complacent, take too many risks, and when they find themselves behind on he scoreboard they will panic causing a vicious cycle of playing catch-up rugby and more mistakes - until they eventually get beaten - think of Alos at DV a season or two ago...

Good teams will consistently win against stronger teams..

Great teams will consistently win, regardless of who the opposition is (think of the ABs here)

Cranbrook will hurt Waverley if they are complacent, I have seen these Brook youngsters play over the years at Hordern, and they can definitely score points. The Torrence youngster can definitely play this game, and the outside backs are well capable too with ball in hand. On the flip side is that teams do score quite a few points against them though.

We will see what pans out tomorrow

(Might see you down there 2morrow WLF - keep the coffee hot for me!)

Prediction time.

Waverley should account for Cranbrook. They simply have too much power up front. Cranbrook will fight hard but its defence needs to be significantly better than last week. Cranbrook can score points, though, so Waverley can’t get careless.

Barker is too strong all over the park for St Aloysius, though I don’t expect a blowout like last year. If (as I assume) Slack-Smith is out, that should not be a problem this week but Barker will want him back for round 3.

And I think Knox will get up over Trinity. This one could be quite close but I think Knox will get there through superior precision especially at the scrum and line out (Trinity’s line out remains a mess). The battle of the 10s could decide who plays CAS 2s.

Well hello Rugby Ref,

Couldn't agree more with you here, in fact, when these 2 schools played in the 16AS, that is exactly what happened, a much closer game than we liked! Understandably Cranbrook thought the opposite!

I have said all along that this Cranbrook team is very good, they scored 35 points against Barker last weekend in the 2nd half. So if we are complacent, then it's our own fault. But it will be a good game, with a good crowd.
It's our local derby and everyone knows everyone, isn't that right Bolivia!

Come and see me, you can have whatever drink you want!

I know its early to make Australian schoolboy selections but I thought there were a few early predictions:

Bruton (12) (Aloysius)
Wood (13) (Aloysius)
Bailey (15) (Aloysius)
Santamaria (utility) (Colts rugby underage)

It is so appalling how people think they can come on this forum and produce such awful grammar and spelling mistakes, "Wabbits" please fix this us it is extremely offensive x

With great appreciation to your approach of selection... I also can firmly agree with you on the number 15 jersey in santamaria, the kid is a Superstar with unearthed natural ability. The selectors are aware of this...

Also the likes of Furlong and J.Hoggett (edit: centre pairings for these two) for the CAS 1s is a promising proposition I believe and many other higher corporates have agreed on.

Ah well, good luck cranbrook as I won’t be able to see you guys play today as I am playing golf at Bondi, hope you guys survive the onslaught!

Furlong over and out.

Nice opening play by Aloys had Barker stuck in their 22 for first 8min. Tight head to Barker and a solid run by Ned SS saw Will Kennedy score out wide. 5 nil Barker
