Q for the experts - if you are on both lists and Syd get first dibs, do you as the player get told and the option to choose or does the fact you have left yourself on both pathways mean you can only go with whoever has first rights (ie, you can withdraw from Syd but cant then play for Schools)?

They dont get told and teams announced at same time

Thx. An interesting roll of the dice then if you have a strong preference for one (presumably NSW Schools) over the other (Syd or Country). And you would never know whether or not you had been selected for your first preference. I suppose if a lad is really confident he will make Schools, he can always withdraw from Regionals. Another dice roll.

Edit: Actually you probably would know, at least ultimately, as Harry Turner's dual selection seems to be a badly kept secret.

Personally, I think there have been young individuals who have been overlooked in projected selections. The battle for Halfback is one that dumbfounds my intellect. Personally I believe the standout is (Although some might pin me as currently seated with my ticket in hand on the "New 16 bandwagon") Patrick Mcormack (N): He is the joint superior U16 half, in the GPS competition. His pinpoint box kicking ability, places him as a strong attacking option in time of need. Due to his immense skill, his delivery is smooth and efficient and is highly entertaining when he fills the 9 Guernsey in whatever teams he plays in. Highly anticipating the upcoming selections and I think he will look great in the Sky Blue under the Auckland sun come September!

I have to say I do not agree with this. McCormack for me would be the 4th choice halfback for even just the GPS team as shown with his selection in the B side. He was selected behind Rory Kennedy (View) who started at #9 and Dalton (J) who was harshly benched in the Presidents side despite playing seconds for Joeys this year. I would also put Strang (Scots - didnt trial for reps due to injury) above McCormack due to superior skillsets. I agree with McCormacks kicking however his pass from what Ive seen is definetely not as good as those boys I have just named. He also takes a while to deliver his ball and he is not as consistat as he had been the last two years. I personally believe he is the 4th best halfback in the GPS u16 comp off of form.

Fairly sure it is Schools that have 1st pick this year.
Last year there was only 1 common player and he went to SJRU (ie they had 1st pick)

That's correct - Harry Turner was the only common player and it was SJRU who had first pick last year. Turners preference was for NSW Schools, he only found out he was selected by SJRU when the team selection went up, he couldn't withdraw from SJRU as NSW Schools had to select another player to replace him, therefore Turner remained with SJRU

When has box kicking in u16's been the number 1 pre requisite for an under 16 half back?Try 1. pass 2. organise 3. tackle 4. support link 5. quick play. I think we saw enough of the Box Kicking from Nic White to last a couple of more seasons

Trinity have some very talented u16s players. Unfortunately (for the u16As), nearly all have been plucked to play 1sts. As a result, they have been on the receiving end of a few 50+ pt defeats during the regular CAS season, so I wouldn't read too much into the above result.

I was unable to see the games over the past two days and was just wondering if any of these boys are looking likely for selection for the u16s Sydney side based off performance today and yesterday.

I saw today's games and I would say most of them as there were no clear standouts in any games. Country played well and for each other. There seemed to be a few additional players added to the zone teams. Not sure if they played in club champs etc. namely a cas forward.
Overall standard was not great. Imo

I wasn't given the names of the players, but was told by a leading Newington Official that was the number. I heard also, that three of the Second's Team can also play in the 16As, I suspect that these three boys might well be those three who played in the Firsts against Trinity.

Here's the NSW u16s Schools Team. Congratulations to all of the boys selected.

CAS with 6, close to the 7 I predicted, GPS with 9 (v 10 predicted) and ISA with 9, blowing my prediction of 3 - 4 out of the water. The only other association represented is CHS with 1. Given CHS beat ISA on the day and only lost to eventual winners Pres A, they are entitled to feel hardly done by IMO. [repeated from CAS thread]
