Good conditions for some upsets,

Hows the Preview going Rich_E??

Slowly mate. My job with previews is to collate, edit and publish the content. Not to write two thirds of it too, which I have had to do this week and last week.

If anyone out there wants to get involved and supply a preview of one or more of the matches from next week send me a private convo.

The NB pitch is always something to avoid when heavy falls of rain are about, i imagine only the forwards will be stepping foot in it and the backs steering well clear!

The rain wont start until tonight.
There'll be little play on it prior to 3s, I should think.
I would not expect it to be too bad - next time it rains it might be a different story - but that may not be this year.
2 years ago when it was bad, and Hutchison did a syndemosis injury in virtually the last game, it had been raining for weeks.

The sort of thinking that someone playing in a third rate competition is no good has been exposed for the fallacy that it is by the Under 20's this year.

The AAGPS star studded NSW U20 team were convincingly beaten by the Nigel No-Names from Victoria. The VRU Club Competition is several levels below the NSW Premiership Colts /Grade/Schoolboy competitions, so the Vic Rep players are Men amongst boys in their local competition compared to our what our players face. Someone even posted how awesome it was to see that AAGPS champion team Scots College had 7 players in the NSW U20's.

By last count there were more players in the Australian U20 Team for the U20 World Champs from the third rate competition in Victoria than there were from NSW.

TL;DR. Talented players in "3rd rate" competitions can outperform Talented players in "1st rate" competitions.

You Mods are a bit trigger happy.

That was all harmless enough

Rule 6.

Might have been "harmless enough" but if you see the rubbish that the Mods have to deal with across all the Schoolboy threads, you may understand why they can get trigger happy.

Prevention is better than cure, and "harmless" playing the man on the AAGPS thread, can be get seriously out of control on one of the other Schoolboy threads if the trolls see that as being acceptable conduct.

Stick to the footy, bagging the Princesses with double digits on their backs, Rep selections, and BBQ/Canteen offerings and all will be well with the world.

In terms of the forecast tempest tomorrow, it is good that N and I are not hosting games. Their ovals probably capture more water than most given the surrounding topography.

In the heavy rain in the past week Shore has been training 3 teams an afternoon on the A ground, The cricket pitch in will be hard and slippery. If there are no games canceled at NB there will be games on the main oval from 8 o'clock onwards.

No doubt in my mind a talented player in a 3rd grade team can out perform a player in a first grade team, but a player may find it easier to stand out in a lower grade team, Phil Waugh started in the Shore U13G's and look how well he went!

The agendas on this site are certainly interesting..

How can any of us make a sweeping statement about agendas and then make a strong case in support of one player and not consider the hypocrisy ?

The weekly match reviews (which are written by home supporters) and general reviews of all TKS games by those not affiliated with TKS have consistently highlighted Osborne form this year. Same cannot be said for Simmonson but take into account the issues he has faced. All reviews of last Saturdays game had Osborne standing behind a pack that was well outplayed, well out muscled. Yet Osborne managed 2 clean breaks, outpaced some pretty handy SIC backs over 60 metres, then a pick and go from about 25 metres out, to score untouched - all in a top of the table clash !! No way the selectors should weigh that up because the "Doggies"
have identified their man !

Beginning of the year on this thread I supported Simmonson as well entitled to be rated as the best #15 heading into the competition. I'm not suggesting you are saying this but inference seems to be that those that rate Osborne, based on what we have seen on the field this season, are really "no nothings" because we should place greater relevance that league scouts have him identified, mind you based on his performance playing across codes and outside the GPS forum ?

I would suggest most readers here who have seen them play would at the very least think their abilities are comparable.

Have either Simmonsen or Osbourne every played at 10??

I don't think there is a standout 10 in the comp (plenty of very good players including Sinclair) but No real standouts.

So if we had 2 standout fullbacks, would that be an option??

Good point New 15 into 10 if thats the case. However could also see Kings 15 on the Wing.
Would have Grammar 12 to play 10 if Pirina from View was playing 12.. Not sure what he is doing on the wing in attack and defending at 12?? I think he would be the strongest 12

I know Rixon is coming back from a large injury but, he has shown the ball skills to play at 10 being NSW U16 Half. He then has displayed his play vision through his position at fullback. It will be interesting to see how he goes against Osborne this weekend. This could be a battle for GPS XV? thoughts?

Rixon can't run a game and did not play 9 in a conventional adult rugby way. He had a weak pass to his left side- which he may have improved for all I know - but which is not a good look at 9 or 10.
Its typical in this country that if someone is identified as "good" it takes little time before they are being touted as a 10 - thats why at times the Wallaby backline has been made up of blokes who all played 10 as juniors.
Haven't seen Osborne but Simonsson is a 15 or a 13 who could play wing without difficulty.

Rixon played 9 in year 10 for shores 1st XV when shore beat riverview in 2014, played a bloody cracker of a game. Not sure what your on about sunshine.

1 game does not a winter make.
What, in your view, made his performance a cracker?
Interesting that I actually cited the reasons he is not a 9 and you just provide the conclusion.
Let me guess: box kicks and runs from the base of the scrum, ruck or maul.
Rixon is a fantastic, if not freakish, athlete: but that does not make him a 9 or a 10.
