No Headmaster, or Head of Sport/Director of Rugby condones foul play, and there is often communications between the parties after the games that the internet warriors don't get to see or hear about.

If you feel strongly about the event/incident, it would be best to make sure that the incident is brought to the attention of the school you are affiliated with, and not debated ad infinitum on an anonymous internet forum.

The latter course of action will only lead to tears. We have seen it all too often.

Please move on. From experience on these forums, after both sides have had their say it is time to move on. Leave the resolution to the relevant and responsible parties.

Back to the rugby.

Subtlety clearly doesn't work.

Further mentions of individual player foul play will deleted and posters will be banned.

Shore are in all sorts of trouble with injuries this week with 2 or 3 players likely being sidelined this week. Unfortunately they were hopelessly out classed up front last week with the Kings pack totally dominating at the breakdown. The backrow certainly missed the toughness and impact of James Doyle and the Kings #8 Pietch had a field day.Shore turned the ball over so many times it was embarrassing. What ball they got never got past the #12 so the back 3 and 13 just tackled all day.Winger Gregory and full back Patrick pulled off many try saving tackles which kept the score under 50.
Kings were excellent across the paddock but under no real pressure from Shore.Shore need to plug the holes mid field and should move Patrick to 10 as is a strong front on defender and runs straight and put Gregory to fullback which he played in juniors. He is a very smart footballer and good defender. The back row needs sorting out as well, they were clearly out played last weekend.
Time for the coaches to make changes, although a few key 2nd's players were injured last week end ,both centres were concussed,a pity as Sam Allen would be the perfect replacement for Nathan Corbett ,at 13 also concussed.
Spotted on the sideline was former All Black winger Terry Wright who played 30 tests as an amateur, and weighed 71 kilo's. He came down from Japan to watch a mates nephew playing in the Shore 1st XV and later N.Z. , poor bugger had a bad day all round !!

Not wanting to get red carded myself I might just add that as a referee at these schools I am forever frustrated by the lack of a linesman. Spectators in lower grades edge onto the field and there is a real concern that someone will get hurt. Who is responsible for appointing the touch judges? Does the home team supply them all or is it one from each school? Apart from 1sts 2nds and 3rds it is chaos!

Not sure about Gregory at fullback, he's quite a small fellow and I feel as though his strengths are maximised on the wing. Then again, I thought the same thing when they put Rixon at fullback, and I was happy to be proven wrong. But the big hole at #13 is concerning for Shore, especially defensively with no Corbett. It'll be a tough day at the office for them this Saturday.

RFTB I couldn't agree more. As a referee I share your frustrations around safety. Have seen a few unsuspecting year 7s on the side line cleaned up in sub opens games. Dodging Grandmas chair or drink carriers is a challenge.

At the very least ropes 5 metres back would be a good start. Would a qualified AR be a "bridge too far???" Maybe SJRU have spoilt me!

Big fan of the external appointments process for higher grades. All referees will make mistakes but at least external appointments removes the perceived hometown bias.

A few howlers at Lane Cove in A and B comp games which spoilt a well deserved victory to View in one instance.

The other was just puzzling! A try scored by View in 15 B that was upgraded to a penalty try for foul play (High tackle). At worst should have been a yellow/red card and a penalty at half way not a PT under the posts! Law 10.4 Q

Hopefully the Referee Coach will be there to provide feedback

I have been asking me sons school for years to do something about this with no luck. I know that a few of his mates have run the line on occasion with little or no encouragement. As an ex-ref I have also run the line for my sons team and been given a bad time from other parents of both teams. I stopped because I didn't really get to sit back and enjoy watching him play and also because of the lack of proper structure yo the system.
Where as when my boy played club each team had to provide a carded assistant ref who new the rules and the ref could at least know he had help if he wanted it.

Without wishing to prolong the discussion on Kings v TAS and the thirds comp, I wanted to make a few comments since I was concerned at initial reports.

First, I checked the program and Kings seems to have sent ten teams. That's 150+ boys. I do not regard that as a no show on Kings part.

It seems quite clear that TAS and Kings agreed to compress the matches because it was in the interests of both sides. I was wrong in my initial assessment about the test. It was a joint thing. And, just for the record, this is the TAS group that participated in Sydney to Surf. Well done boys.

While I dearly love rugby, sport (and the GPS) is more than Rugby. One third of the GPS already follows the thirds comp as the only GPS Rugby comp. It's gaining traction in other schools. In some ways, Rugby is close to its beam ends now compared to soccer. More boys are playing soccer, I think, and its only a matter of time before (on present trends) there will be two boys (and girls now that TAS is going co-ed!) playing soccer for every rugby player.

So let's all get real.

Yes, the lack of linesmen (ars) is a massive issue

there is not a weekend that there aren't issues that relate to both 'no AR' and other "housekeeping" that junior rugby is on top off

To give an example saw a case of a 13a match where the ref did have a schoolboy running touch, and at half time he was asking why he was always slow to get to the relevant spot

And the kid explained that as all the adults had got so close to the touch line, he had to run around various parents/obstacles

Ironically the same child ar was later coping abuse from a parent, and the ref had to tell the parent to zip it

As someone suggested to me , schools should have some sort of points system, bit like exists in junior rugby ... Don't provide the ARs, ground marshals, line markers.... Lose comp points

Some good suggestions about game day field dressing, and match day protocols (roping and qualified AR's etc).

As there are only AAGPS competition points available at 1st XV, 2nd XV and 3rd XV level, the threat of loss of competition points will not work.

The best way to make the desired change (a la SJRU procedures) is on the grounds of Player Safety, and Duty of Care obligations the School has towards its students and the visitors to its premises.

When common sense and logic fails, the insurance and safety card can achieve the desired effect. There are enough parents in the AAGPS system with legal, insurance or OHS backgrounds that would be well positioned to discuss the potential mess a School could find itself in if a player or spectator is injured on a schools premises during a game where the school hasn't done a safety risk assessment and taken "appropriate" measures to address and reduce those risks.

One blokes preview on Scots v Joeys, Round 7, 15/8...

After last week's "kissing your sister" result at Stanmore, and the return battle of Lane Cove/Hunters Hill now dusted for Season 2015, the task gets no easier for Scots and Joeys when they face off at Bellevue Hill on Saturday. Both absolutely must win this one to have any chance of knocking off favored Newington in this year's Premiership. For that reason alone, I'll give this one "Match of the Round" status.

Both teams need to back up from bruising encounters last week, but we're talking about 17 and 18yo's here, not 40 and 50yo's!

The Round 2 result to Scots, 21-15 away at Hunters Hill, should rate little more than a footnote but it'll add some "get square" motivation for the young men in cerise and blue, which is a never to be underestimated driver.

Absent training mishaps, I expect Scots will run on the same side as they have been doing for the last 3 Rounds, and similarly for Joeys except for Tom Wright who sounds like he might be 'in doubt'. Let's hope his injury from last weekend proves up as "better than first thought", and that he can indeed play.

The expected lineups look pretty even on paper, with quality all across the park.

The vaunted Joeys pack didn't daunt the lads in gold and blue in Round 2, and I don't expect that will be any different this week. The loosies will practically destroy themselves securing the breakdowns and pilfering the others' possessions. (And I hope that Charlie Smith can stay on for the full 70' this week!) The halves and halves combinations, as are the 3/4's of both sides, they are all class. The back 3's, if given any room to move down the sidelines in particular, will make the others pay, even with possessions from inside their own 22's.

Joeys, for now, control their own destiny in this year's Premiership. If they do come through, they'll sure have earned it facing off to Riverview (away), Scots (away) and Newington (@ home) in back-to-back weeks in this second round of matches.

Scots, if they win this Saturday, will still need 'outside assistance' from somewhere. Maybe after the full time whistle on Saturday, an offer to assist with the Joe Boys' recovery to help Joeys knock off Newington back at Hunters Hill the following Saturday?

Looking forward to a belter of a match on Saturday, and hope that the current forecast of "possible showers" fails to materialise on Saturday afternoon.

Scots at home to get up by 10.

Otherwise New should roll on against Kings, at least by a comfortable 2 try margin. And Shore to not be able to repeat last year's second round heroics against View who'll instead comfortably account for the Shoremen.

Ward Prentice (10)
Scots have improved significantly since the early rounds and have been the only team thus far that has come close to matching Newingtons physicality and strength. In particular, the defensive strength of Scots against a clearly bigger Newington team (particularly in that first half) makes me think they will prevail in the 2nd round over Joeys.
Newington have shown they are vulnerable in the latter end of a game, with their big forwards tiring. Any team that can be within 7 points of New going into the last 15 minutes of a game have got to believe they have a better than average chance of taking home the bacon. Unfortunately, Kings this weekend will give up too many points before New run out of steam, to make any come back possible and cause an upset.
Shore have had to contend with too many injuries this season and I can't see them beating View, who will be looking to make amends for the loss last week to Joeys.

Tips for me
Newington by 30
Riverview by 30
Scots by 20
No close ones this weekend.
Joeys were beaten at home by Scots when playing at their best. At Bellevue Hill against an improved Scots outfit and without top points scorer Wright they will be atleast 20 points adrift.

Wristman re: Joeys, you must have missed the commitment and unified drive of their pack in the 2nd half against View last Saturday if you think they're a 20 points lesser side than Scots.

Gittoes, Horton, Leaver et al are a handful for any team and Wilkinson is displaying composure at #10. Even without mercurial Wright they'll give Scots a big shake this weekend and I'm tipping them to keep their momentum going.

Frank Nicholson (4)
Tips:

Newington by 20, feel that kings will put up a good fight, but won't be able to contain the new outside backs

Scots by 14, main reason being the way they played against new last week was outstanding, especially in defence, joeys are really going to have to be on their game this weekend

Riverview by 30, sadly not shore's year this year

I see on other GGR threads the minions are saying the move of Athletics until after rugby season (2016), is going to see the GPS powerhouses playing LESS cross code (ISA, CAS) games ... not MORE

that would be a shame ... as I had hoped for the opposite

with CAS and ISA seasons done and dusted ... the results indicate Knox and St Auggies are the big powerhouses ... St Auggies only lost the 1sts Comp (to Oakhill) and won every other A and B team ... and Knox was much the same (I believe only failing in 13As)

so the SDW's illegitimate Sydney school Tier 1 rugby rankings

1. Joeys
2. St Augustines
3. Knox
4. Scots (maybe below Riverview, depending on weighting to 1sts xV ?)
5. Riverview
6. Newington
7. Kings
8. Waverley/Oakhill [1 to fall to Tier 2]

Now that would be a competition
