The Newington crowd was pretty impressive at the Scots game. Joeys and Kings usually put up a good crowd at away games mainly due to both schools being predominantly boarding schools.

Perhaps you could kick off the dialogue on Will Wennerbom with your own analysis and thoughts on this player.

In addition to the basic core skills that every rugby player must have (catch & pass, tackle, fitness. body position in contact, physicality, game sense, etc) I expect a halfback to provide excellent service to his backline and forward runners from both set pieces and phase play. They should be able to handle pressure well, whilst being able to apply pressure to their opposite. They should make sound decisions, and be a good communicator and organiser on the field, keeping the forwards focused and backline organised. A kicking game is useful but over rated, and overused by some high profile halfbacks. They need to possess a long flat pass to both sides of their body, and be able to manage the referees perception of their teams performance.

From what you have seen of the player, how do WW's performances stack up against that criteria?

I think that Will is definitely a hard working halfback who was forced to work for his postion in the first XV as he initially started in the seconds. I've been lucky enough as an avid Joeys supporter to get along to the games and IMHO he has been playing superb footy in terms of his clean ball and not to mention his absolute rocket pass! Is also a kid that doesn't seem to mind a textbook tackle and has obviously become quite proficient at it as he's brought down blokes twice his size. Definitely a quality player in my eyes and is possibly looking at higher honours on the GPS Playing field.

As long as Wennerbom can grant clean ball to the rainmaker Tom Wright, Joeys will already have one hand on the shield this year.

He also has Matt Curtin (Joeys 2nd seconds half ) who is playing great football breathing down his neck

I believe he gave much better service (certainly quicker) that the Riverview half. Halfback was always going to be the Achilles heel for Riverview this year, even with the introduction of Noonan.

oh well, it wouldn't be the first time Joeys has had a surplus of quality scrum halves

I can even remember years where Joeys kids were getting selected in GPS teams, from the 2nds

Hardly an orchestrated campaign.

None of the previous 7 mentions have said anything more than he played for GPS Whites last year.

On that basis Gary Owen III suggested that he would stand a good chance of being re-selected in 2015, which is not entirely unreasonable. Gary Owen III also "threw around" the names of 18 other names in his March 31 post.

Are you cross that those other 18 players "returning" from 2014 AAGPS representative teams are getting their names "thrown around" for AAGPS 1's, or is it just an issue with Grammar kids who for no fault of their own play in the AAGPS 3rd XV competition?

It is not as if they have a choice in the matter of which competition their School 1st XV plays in. They are playing 1st XV rugby for their school.

maybe Sheldon is a prospect... IMHO I don't see it. I'll have to watch him play in the Thirds comp this year and see how he fairs!
