Newington V Kings
Since round one much soul searching (and searching within old cook House Joe's cook books) has revealed that Kings are now eager to try it all again. Reports have filtered in a some changes to the menu for this weekend and the emphasis will not be just good honest food, but flair, fun and run. The previous weekend showed how ruthless Kings can be and nothing like a bit of momentum (like a runaway tractor), a few loud drums, vocal supporters may see the Kings boys push their Inner city cousins. Newington of course will have none of this nonsense as seen by the recent visit to my home by the Tapuii-ui twins who wanted to share there thoughts on taro insertion with me. Even so I feel Newington will treat Kings like a chicken uma and will bury the Parramatta boys in a pit of fire, roast them slowly and tear the life out of them. Newington by two dozen Kuku.
Scots v Joeys
In 2013 and 2014 Joeys were quite rightly belted by Scots in the first round by fine teams from Bellevue. In both return matches the lads from Hunters Hill showed enormous improvement and almost stole both games. (Clear winners though in the after game functions...no one beats Alba's sausage rolls) This I feel will continue again. The Joeys spring lambs have now grown some extra muscle, a quick step after galloping and feeding on the fields of Parramatta and Lane Cove. I believe they would feel somewhat confident with taking on Scots boys who have found the menu of late being stretched...is depth now a factor? Is there any more "enhanced" beef in the chamber?. The Joeys boys though have no such problem and like the excellent Beef Brisket Ale Pot Pie served at the Woolwich Pier, the Joeys lambs have a long feed lot and plenty in reserve. Being bold I feel not having Tom Wright will be an asset as he is easily startled by playing those who he knows. Never though under estimate the special meals served up in the Scots Cafe. Reports say that there is more than chicken salt been added to the diet of several large boys this year. In what shall be the match of the round, I predict Joeys by the smallest silver of a Salchichon Forest Mushroom Salami.
View v Shore
There are good things happening at Northbridge. Fine BBQ run by eager fathers, mothers manning the excellent canteen serving very good coffee and, as now finally discovered by the wider community, "the" best pie of the GPS. It is a shame though these heavenly treats show more resistance, spice, innovation and flair than the boys playing. Even an injection of curry and the occasional Moroccan lamb filling has yet to provide a knock out, let alone a stiff crust. Shore, like the excellent bread shop at Castlecrag, though will never, ever stop trying to rise and stand tall. In round one it was simple to see that the freshly caught barramundi matched with an excellent Sav Blanc from New Zealand was always going to be superior to the aforementioned pies. The refined diners enjoyed the better of the menu on offer, showing more imagination and control of the ingredients and it was Shore left with the washing up. This weekend I see no change in the winds and once again Shore will be left to scrub the pans on season that cannot end soon enough. View but a good dozen white wines.
