This is how Riverview & Kings went around this year:

Rd 1 (Kings) Rd 2 (View)

1sts 10-24; 26-37
2nds 28-32; 14-16
16As 38-0; 0-38
15As 14-15; 24-24
14As 15-17; 45-7
13As 19-24; 19-12

Kings rose in Rd 2 to reverse their defeats at home in the 1sts & 2nds; barely a struck match between the 15s; special mention to Riverview's 14As for their undefeated season.

Something would be nice. Things seem on the build, let people know. One or 2 photographs and a paragraph or two overview of the program perhaps. I went onto the latest copy of the newsletter and saw some information there about upcoming tours and other information for 2014. Even that would do.

Who knows, today Ruschcutters Bay, tomorrow the world;).

Enjoy your cricket/rowing season.:)

What's to say?
The kids eligible for the tours know they're on.
The school is not trying to sell itself to potential parents through rugby and its doubtful they could, in the sense that anyone looking to rugby for guidance as to which school their son should attend is probably not going to be interested in SGS.
I'm pretty relaxed about the low key page - although it probably wouldn't hurt to have some information there.

Hi Fellow Gaggers!

I spent today at Newington College for the graduation day celebrations.

Can I just take a moment to thank the school, the boys, the staff, the parents - for a wonderful experience over the last few years! ( No - my boy did not start in year 7! Go to other thread - do not pass GO, do not collect $200! ). I have loved the whole experience!

Thanks to all the contributors on this forum for making the rugby seasons so dynamic, interesting and thought provoking.

Thanks for the laughs! Thanks for the insight and passion for the GAME - but also for our bias & parochialism!

Wherever they end up - I wish all the young men who have entertained, thrilled, frustrated and enthralled us this year only the very best as they enter the next phase of their futures, be it in rugby or just life in general.

Sorry for this philosophical moment - but ( like CTPE and others I suspect ) it's done and dusted for me. A few reds and don't let me near the computer!!!

My great good wishes going forward to all the boys and their parents, the schools, the competition in general - I hope that the "minnows" are continued to be encouraged, that there is more chat about the 13G's and so on! That excellence be recognised and that we can look forward to another 150 years of great rugby, fraternity and good natured banter.

Cheers to you all!

Wreckless :)

Wreckless, I have enjoyed the discussion and the education you all provide. Is it time to switch focus to the 2014 thread? I have some more comparative results to post.

Ah JB! You have been a breath of fresh air! Must be all that good country living out in Armidale!;)

For sure I'll be over on the 2014 thread! As a public school boy ( a bloody long time ago! ) I have just loved the environment in GPS Rugby, and I'm sure the CAS, ISA etc. feel the same!

If I appear melancholy it's because I wish I'd had the opportunity to be part of it, and I mean not only the rugby but the great traditions that all the schools thrive on. The cheer squads, the songs, the rivalry and camaraderie!

I can barely remember my graduation ( I think it involved a food fight at some stage! ) but today was something to cherish!

My lad has thrived on the experience - both triumph and adversity - and I don't need to tell fellow bloggers that he has made lifelong friends and feels part of something bigger than the individual.

Just hoist a glass and wish them all well - I know I will! :)

Cheers, Wreckless

Just to add ( now that I can come clean! ) - The lad I'm referring to is probably better known to you all as GPSRow! Yes - GPSRow is my love-child and I'm very proud of him - especially "outing himself" on the blog! Yes - he's made some mistakes ( and paid the penalty! ) - but I am proud of him! And especially today!

Well done Son! :)

I hope we are going to see wreckless and GPSrow on the Colts 2014 thread even if under another avatar, having outed yourselves.

Rugby is a culture, and lifestyle that exists for life and not just schoolboy footy. Even if you are broken or useless as a player, there are administration, officiating and coaching positions, and playing positions at all levels down to 5th division Subbies to enable you to contribute to the game that is played in Heaven.

Thanks Wreckless and I share your pride in your son.

I am a reasonably well known blogger and have been writing about the comp as well in the broader on-line environment. Given my writing commitments across various platforms (print as well as electronic), participation on G&G is actually a distraction! But its one that I have valued greatly. Among other things, it's drawn me back into connection with the current TAS community.

Looking forward to 2014, I thought that I might try my hand at looking at some of the lower level games from 13 up. Obviously I am TAS focused, but I do like the way the overall comp gives boys at all ages and all levels the thrill of representation. 2012 and especially 2013 has been a learning experience for me. I had to be educated, given that I had been out of the loop for such a long time.

One of my thrills in 2013 was going to watch the TAS under 15As play. An Aboriginal friend's son was playing. He was so polite, and took me off to introduce me to his housemaster and other TAS dignitaries! I don't know if you realise this, but there is an entire Rugby stream focused on giving Aboriginal kids a chance to advance through Rugby.

Let 2014 roll-on.

Jimbo, if it relates to footy this year, then you should post in this thread and not the 2014 thread. It will have a life for a wee while longer as things wind down for the year.

I have enjoyed reading the various posts on the TAS/SBHS/SGS 1st XV vs the others 3rd XV competitions. Too often we focus on the exclusive and not the inclusive aspects of Rugby.

It is all too easy to live in an incestuous world of a 6 team AAGPS or CAS competition and not realise that there is life beyond Barker, Knox, Aloys, Trinity, Cranbrook, Waverley, Newington, Joeys, Riverview, Shore, Scots, and Kings.

I love hearing about what is happening in Armidale, Bathurst, Orange, and Bowral via the ISA threads, and the AAGPS 3rds competition. It reminds us all that rugby is bigger than Sydney Metropolitan, and that Australia and New South Wales exists beyond the City boundary.

Thanks Hugh. I hit enter too early. Love the jimbo bit. That's what many of my older friends call me :). I will try to write broadly next year.

My girls have have a classification called sooky movies. Eldest in particular. Many are US movies in a sports environment. You know, new coach who brings about great change. I am an addict! So next year?

Great post Wreckless - you've always posted in a very cheery and positive manner which has made for entertaining reading. As you're a confessed red drinker you must be a good bloke as well and I do appreciate the red + computer affliction having succumbed to it myself in the past.

We've had the immense pleasure of watching our son play rugby for King's for ten years from Yr 3 in the Prep U9C's through to the Prep 1sts then 13As to 16As and over the last two years in the 1st and 2nds. While his last season was cut short due to injury and was not the way he wanted to finish his decade of King's rugby, any disappointment on our part is dissipated by the great joy we've had from watching him play, making great friendships with other rugby parents and seeing some very talented and fine young men (from both King's and other schools) emerge as very poised players, a number of whom will no doubt go on to greater rugby success.

Every best wish to all Year 12 GPS rugby boys in your upcoming final school exams and beyond and thanks for the many years of great pleasure you've given to all of us cheering from the sidelines.

I am reliably informed an idiot flanker, that you have done a pretty good job as a parent Mr Wreckless.

Well said CTPE, you have always been a thoughtful and insightful in your posts. Good luck to CTPE jnr in his uncoming exams. I'm at the other end, with a boy in Prep at one of the schools.
