Jack Bowditch from View will be dangerous this season. Will be interesting to see who Newington has to put up against him in the front row for their round 1 clash this weekend.

Last year every game I saw Jack Bowditch play in the 1st XV, he was too busy pulling his jersey down. But yes, hopefully this kid will have a blinder of a season.

Where are you getting these stats from? My year at New (I came from Lindfield), every single boy from Lindfield went over to Stanmore, the same with the year aboveand the year below (late 80s). Last year of the 20 or so boys at Lindfield Prep yr 6 at least 14 went on to Stanmore.

Getting these from my little brothers year at new. From what he said, and i saw, it was a class of 19, 5 went to knox, 2 to kings, 1 to riverview, 1 to joeys, 1 to shore, 3 to public schools, 2 to Grammar.

Wolf Out.

What backs do you think in your opinion specialists and various backs would be in the hunt?
Taane from New has to be an obvious pick, having represented NSW on the wing last year, not too sure about the other wing, sounds like Cohen from SJC has been playing some good footy? That's a bit of a bolter though.

GPSrow and others I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what this new 3rd XV comp is going to look like?
Tips for the comp? The stronger and weaker XV's?

GPSrow has written an excellent blog previewing the 2013 GPS 1st XV competition here:

http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/?p=47598&preview=true

Great effort. Looking forward to Match reports from GPSrow if he can keep up this style.

I think he may have over stated View chances this year in his final rankings. IMHO they must be looking good for 2014 and will provide a surprise or two during 2013 season but have to be considered a very long odds outside chance for 2013.

The 3rd XV is usually a demonstration of what school has the most depth in rugby, last year it was no surprise Joeys won scoring 207 points while only conceding 22. Shore was second, View third and Kings fourth. These are the four biggest rugby schools by participation rate in the GPS. Newington came last in this competition despite having a great firsts team. For this year expect the same schools to dominate but my tip would be on Joeys as they have always had a 3rd XV capable of beating most 2nd XV's. The dark horse could be Grammar as their first XV will be competing in this competition for the first time and the rugby community will be hoping for some good results for this school.

Of the 10 rounds that the GPS 1sts and 2nds play..it seems from a quick look that the 3rds are out of step and playing about 3 games at different venues from their 1st and 2nd's teams. this could mean that in some of games the schools may be looking to their respective U16 teams to provide back up for the seconds, and possibly bring some of those 16's more into the frame as their pool for promotion in case of injury up the line..I guess depending on the school and thier depth, injuries in the 1's and 2's could affect the out look in the 16's comp?

Why wouldn't they just schedule the 3rds games, so players have sufficient time to travel to the 2nds game in time to sit on the bench?

Watching the games at Joeys last Saturday the no 10 in their 3rds caught my eye quite a number of times and certainly wouidn't be out of place in the 2nds. Don't know his name as the program only listed the firsts and seconds. The point about good depth being an essential prerequisite for success this year has been made many times over the last 4 months and Joeys have that on most other teams.

Are you unfamiliar with Sydney traffic? That could mean having to play on Friday.

also the teams are also travelling to Armidale for their TAS fixture once in the season..so while Sydney traffis is a bit problematic, Armidale to Sydney is an even bigger stretch....

it would be fantastic to see a game at the end of the season against GPS winners and CAS winners. A true Sydney schoolboy battle. Any thoughts on the potential of this

Good idea but maybe also include the ISA champs and the Waratah Shield winners in a round robin comp with the winner to be crowned NSW School Champion? (timing could be an issue as it might have to be played over 2 weeks?)
