Ezra deserve his #1 spot on the front row. The 16A prop (NSW School 16) will decide to play second as prop or trial other position to make the 1st. Alternatively, 16A prop should have a go at #8 and the other for hooker.

McTaggart seems a bit out of his depth at half and got rattled against new with a bone crunching hit from newington number 8 luani, newington sources tell me there was a hole in the ground! poor kid..

i saw luani take out walford with a massive hit, took walford out of the game and left a massive hole in the ground...

The Newington forwards were brutal against the lads from Hunters Hill on the weekend. Roach hunted down Walford all game and it was evident as Walford never attacked the line with his amazing footwork and speed as he has in other GPS games. Two props from New outstanding and all put the Joeys half under pressure.
Anyone know as to why Max Beer was in the 2nds?

Max has been there all year except in some trial games.

He dithered a couple of times in the trials but he's had a couple of blinders for the Twos, who are undefeated, and one thought he would get promoted even though the season is short. In particular: his passing has been prompt and accurate.

PS I mentioned before that somebody told me at a game that GPS will have 2 rounds starting next year. Can anybody confirm??

No. They are currently doing the draw for next year, and it will be one round.

That's ridiculous. The only way for GPS teams to get competitive trial games now that CAS plays 2 rounds is by playing each other anyway, as the standard and depth of the ISA schools is patchy (some good and some not so good).

Any idea of why only one round. I was advised early this year to register my son in a local club so he could play more games 'cause of the limited games GPS have. Hours & hours of training for only 6 games & trials matches.

2 rounds is not the answer. Hasn't really done anything positive for CAS and crowds are down 30%.

History. Both CAS and GPS played one round until recently. CAS only introduced two rounds in the last year or two.

Torn Hammy, what is the answer then? Not being confrontational, just wondering what would you suggest? If the CAS schools had kept to one round I wouldn't think GPS needs 2. It seems all the GPS teams played trial games against one another anyway. Do you think CAS should revert to 1 round?

I think the crowds in have been diminishing for other reasons...I sense a general lack of discipline wafting through some schools. The compulsory sport thing not being adhered to or pushed, and some of the teachers/ headmaster think it is more mportant to be popular by turning a blind eye to some stuff in my opinon. Could be wrong, as there are many great teachers supporting the whole school spirit, sport and tradition thing (and teaching is a necessary and great vocation...arguably better than the one I am in), but the impact teachers have on the kids doesn't seem as effective as days of old. Also rugby is not the king of winter sport it once was.

A home and away can be a good thing, teams can develop through the season and the impact of an away game is not as dramatic. The home advantage of some schools home grounds can be quite decisive. Though it would be better to see more schools play outside their particular competition or play schools outside their peer group. It is a little too insular. In some ways a double edged sword...a hard competition is what we all want, but for various reasons, some schools can easily be left behind: vale SBHS in GPS rugby. I am sure we don't want to see that happen to Grammar (and outside GPS, St Aloysius or Cranbrook).

I think the CAS home and away is still quite new, so perhaps a little early yet to see how it pans out. But regardless the school rugby season is very short these days. I think the seasonality of sport was better suited to three terms, not four.

CAS went to 2 rounds because GPS changed their athletics time slot. I was told that there was no discussion between GPS and CAS about this change and maybe the two rounds was a 'bugger you' reaction. You would be miffed if someone changed 40+ years of tradition without consultation.

Given that most poeple think that a solid pre-season and one round was much better, and that you have restored the timeslot for athletics, it would be good for the game if there was a bit of grovelling and smoozing done by the GPS powers to their CAS counterparts. My feeling is they would be glad to revert to one round.

We actually miss your rugby arrogance, dodgy refs and our canteens miss your hungry cashed up boarders.

Thanks for that. I wasn't so much for the GPS playing two rounds or one, I just thought that good competition would be beneficial for those teams.
I did wondered what the reasoning was.
Since a lot of good players come out of those comps you'd think they'd want to stay on the same page for the sake of the game here. Both should do two or both should do one in my opinion, although 2 rounds would probably send the weaker teams to oblivion as someone else pointed out.

Predictions for the final round:

SJC v SHORE
I think Joeys will bounce back from a demoralising thrashing and easily account for Shore. Joeys' backs were completely shut down early on in the match by the big Newington forwards and I can't see Shore doing the same. Joeys' strength is in their speedy backs and Shore's weakness is in their backs. Too strong at home, Joeys 15+.

SIC v NC

Have to disagree qwerty51... Not sure if you saw the New vs Joeys game last week but Joeys were pathetic! Yes New are a good side but they are not that good. Joeys somehow beat Kings, and were incredibly lucky and gutsy to beat View (but home ground advantage played a big part!). Last weekend their luck ran out, and every piece of luck went Newingtons way. Don't be fooled by their victories against complacent Kings and View. This is one of the worst Joeys teams ever. Sarge will probably jump up and down at that comment but i'm only being honest.

It will be a tight game and i won't be surprised if Newington win, but they won't win by 30+. They might also get ambushed by a View team hurting from underachieving this season...

Other games - Shore will give Joeys a scare but as long as Joeys can get some ball their wingers and 15 will be too strong for the Shore backs.

TKS vs TSC... Kings to dominate and win comfortably.
