Is that not though, a damning indictment of the game in this country? That a game between 17-18 year old private school boys, is genuinely the highlight. It certainly is the best Rugby to watch, but it is a disgrace on the leadership and administration of Rugby in this country that it is so. I suppose one should not over think it and just enjoy the specatcle, but for me it describes a big reason as to why the game in this country is badly broken.
You’re right.

It’s not the Schooly Boy Rugby communities problem what RA do within their walls.

Yes, a lot of ties exist between the two and some have been very bias and put rugby backwards but without school boy rugby in Sydney & Brisbane where would the Wallabies be?

RA and the State Unions need to push Rugby into the community.

3. NSW Schools II

NSW juniors xv and nswjru and have no relation with nsw schools, it is picked from state champs and Sydney and country games i believe.

wartahs 18s play in the academy competition later in the year, there will be more boys added to the academy lists as well through a barbs team which is picked that plays the academy 2nds side I believe or boys who prove there worth from school footy.

This was seen with by players like Henry James, Boston fakafunu and tyrese lokeni last year who didn’t make Gps sides but went onto play wartahs 18s.

@Joker

Any idea on the crowd at HH for the 2003 View v Joeys game. I remember that being absolutely crammed. Final game of the season both being undefeated.

View getting the chocies right on full time. Classic game.

Hi Joker

When was the last time an AAGPS 1ST XV team did not have at least one Joeys player ? Sure it's been a while.
Might explain why Joeys are where they are on the table. ( I know that's controversial and I'm not trying to stir up anything. I honestly think they don't have too many stand out players and those they have unfortunately are injured )
Thoughts
Nothing controversial about it. Demz da facts. Wouldn't be where they are if it wasn't the case.

Ok. I am investigating now.

Starting at 2017 and going backwards. Let you know when I find a year where Joeys did not have 1 player in the AAGPS 1st's.

So far nothing. 2014 was close but Tom Wright grabbed a spot

This is my understanding of the order of importance....

The Waratahs (2 NSW State Academy squads) is the pinnacle level of representation (chosen from School or Sydney/Country club pathways) and will play 2 games in the Term 2 holidays and a further 2 games in the Term 3 holidays (playing against other State Academy squads)

The term 'Gen Blue' is the Rep Academy Program which covers various year groups, NSW Academy squads chosen at this age are referred to as the Waratahs U18's (1 and 2).

The Waratahs will head to QLD for 2 games on the 1st July

Reds U18 v Waratahs U18 (1)
Reds U18 White v Waratahs U18 (2)

The Waratahs squad will then play another State(s) during these holidays to provide plenty of game time for Rugby Aust selectors.

After the Term 2 holidays, the Waratahs U18's (1 and 2) will be re-selected and play another 2 games each in the Term 3 holidays.

During this holiday period, the RugbyWA U18 State squad will jet across to Canberra to play the ACT Brumbies U18's on the 5th July. Last year they went on to play an additional 2 State teams in these holidays due to the time/effort in getting to the East Coast.
Also in 2022, RugbyWA did not re-send their 18's squad to the East Coast for games in the Term 3 holidays however 3 boys had already been singled out by selectors and were in Canberra in September and named in the Australian squad.

This will be the 2nd game for the ACT Brumbies after playing against RugbyVIC Rebels U18's in Victoria on 1st July.

I am unsure at this stage who else the Rebels OR Reds (1 and 2) are playing these holidays.

At the conclusion of State games in the Term 3 holidays, Rugby Aust officials will announce the Australian U18's squad. This occurred last year at the AIS in Canberra.

Sorry, getting back to the Schools 1, Schools II, Juniors XV and the Barbarians (boys from Sydney/Country clubs only) , this is the next tier down from the Waratahs (1 and 2).

All 4 of these teams will compete at the Australian Schools Rugby Championships from Mon 3rd July to Thurs 6th July.

They will compete against

Australian Capital Territory
Queensland 1
Queensland 2
Victoria

An Australian Schoolboys team and an Australian Schoolboys Barbarians team will be selected from these Championships to play in a three-way competition with Tongan Schoolboys later in the year. Last year the squad travelled to Japan.

2 very comfortable wins in the end for Presidents As today 33-0 over ISA 2s and 36-7 (despite being down 7-5 at HT). Presidents Bs had a solid win over CAS 26-7 before a surprising loss in a nailbiter with ISA 1s 10-12. As will now play ISA 1s in the Final, Bs playing off for 3rd/4th.

view vs joeys would be by far the best.

kings vs joeys would come in close second, two biggest boarding communities collide.

kings vs newo is always a good match, with it being the first ever AAGPS game to be played over 153 years ago.

Scots vs shore can be a entertaining fixture with the battle of the beaches
Where does Scots vs Joeys rank?? Catholics vs Protestants?? 1993?

Scots have not beaten Joeys in a 1st XV game in a trial or competition game since 2017.
Yes, doesn't mean still hasn't been a contest and a good game to watch. Scots' hate Joeys and Joeys hate when Scots beat them. Parents also hate each other probably because when Scots ruined Joeys' streak in 1993, 48', 49' and 59' or something to do with that. But, oh well, what would I know right?
