That is the only correct answer moving forward, and that can't happen until the GPS stop looking down on CAS and ISA schools. It is pretty easy to understand why we are frustrated with the GPS.

Why, they GPS competition is very successful and has a proud tradition .. you’d never seen the QLD GPS competition capitulate, so why the Sydney one ?

The QLD GPS don't have 3 schools in their competition that can't even compete in the 1st competition...

The QLD GPS also don't have schools in the lower competitions beating them. Granted it is only 3 schools.

I also believe the QLD competition play matches outside of their association as it is.

These associations were established 150 years ago... a lot has changed since then, Schools have taken different approaches, and have emphasised different aspects of schooling. Some are academic, some a mixture of academics and sporting schools, and some are Joeys. Besides, it's not like you guys don't already have an inter-association sporting competition already for AFL...

sorry chum but you are wrong.

2018 marked the one hundredth anniversary of the Foundation of the Great Public Schools’ Association of Queensland.
That makes them 104.

Schools in the QLDGPS were established...

Churchie 1912
BBC 1902
BGS 1868
BSS 1913
IGS 1863
Nudgee 1891
Terrace 1875
TSS 1901
TGS 1875

Two schools only are 150 years old. If you are going to quote statistics, get them right.

Your comp is broken. It's not the responsibility of the GPS to be obliged to provide competition for your two schools who can compete across all age groups and prop up a busted system. If you'd kept your house in order in the first place this would never have been a problem.

Your comp is broken too. You literally have 3 schools who don't compete and Shore who won their first game in 6 years this year...

In the last 20 years in the CAS Rugby competition you have had 5 different Premiers. In the last 20 years of the GPS Rugby competition there have been 6.

CAS is a 3 team comp every year with the exception of everyone getting excited when Cranbrook has a team once a decade that can compete. Aloys are gone and I'd say Trinity seem to be as well.

If the CAS want to merge with the ISA then do it. I think it would be a great opportunity for teams like Auggies and Oakhill to continue their climb. Part of me wonders how long it may last if Oakhill and Auggies were to win it a few times. (memories of St Pius come up there)

The idea of a Sydney/NSW wide schools comp is a nice thought. Maybe one day it occurs. But the GPS also has an obligation to protect its own and provide better match ups than Joeys 14Es playing Cranbrook 14Bs and having everyone apart on game days. Part of the fun is having all your mates at one place throughout a day playing games then landing in the same spot for 1sts, 2nds, 3rds and talking rubbish about your game and support the seniors. Could guarantee not many people are going to drive from their sons View 13Cs v Trinity 13Bs to watch the 1sts at Knox.

Fair enough.

But no rebuttal for anything else I said... There were 12,000 at Barker vs Knox... so by your logic the CAS isn't broken either and all is well!

I am unfortunately right. the GPS is arguably the most broken of the comps considering 1/3 of your association can't even compete in that said association's footy comp. But if you're happy to exclude 3 and a half team's schools from your association, I guess I just feel bad for those schools.

If you are in The Ghost of Raelene's corner and don't see the merged competition working due to logistical reasons, then fair enough, it's a valid point. But please. No stupidity.

Former view captain Dally Bird will be playing in the first colts grand final this weekend

I know this is the GPS forum but any predictions

1st colts: Manly vs easts
1st grade: Gordon vs Syd uni
Lots of scots boy in the Easts 1st colts team, Darby Lancaster, Luca Rossi, Connor Mcmullen, Harvey McGregor, Dylan hansen (2020 scots captain) and others around 1's and 2"s. Angus Fahey from kings is also on the team as well as other GPS boys.

How does that help Barker Knox and Waverley?
And here ladies and gentlemen is the real Crux of the argument .. you said the quiet part out loud ..

This whole 2 tier system rubbish isn’t about helping “rugby” … or schools like cran, trinity or st alyo to improve. Infact, it’s quiet obvious you’re happy to throw them away and forget about them in your 2nd tier Abyss …
This is about and always HAS been about jealously and instead of fostering and promoting a strong Culture within your own association, you want or break up another (GPS) because you can’t stand it’s prestige and history.

Say what you want about GPS but they look after their own… They never kicked out TAS, but rather accommodated them whenever they can into the sports seasons and it’s always great to see them at big events like the athletics

they never kicked grammar or high when things got tough, out but rather created a 3rds comp, which is FAR superior to two tier system .. and which means those boys will still get to experiences normal GPS seasons and still get to play the likes of joeys and kings at a safer level ..

I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with breaking up competitions to feed your own egos, but here’s an idea, why don’t you focus all this negative energy into something positive?? … why don’t you make you own Association amazing and own comp the envy of others !

Sorry, but every insinuation you make here is completely off the mark, and you are wrapped up in what you believe is the specialness of the GPS.

There are numerous reasons why a tiered system makes more sense, whilst still each association could still run it's own comp within such a set up.

Unlike your assertion, Aloys and Trinity would not be kicked out of the CAS comp, but like TAS, Grammar,High would be in a more competitive comp, and if they improved there is the chance to be promoted to the highest tier. They also would still be in every other sport eg athletics.
By the way, a 3rds comp is another tier!
So that argument is dead.

The other MAJOR issue you have completely missed here, is SAFETY! (for obvious reasons).

Stop positioning the GPS as the be-all-and-end-all, like you think all other associations believe, IT IS NOT.
In fact you are new to this forum, Joker will tell you when the "Trial" system was reintroduced the GPS pundits all laughed hysterically and said the CAS wouldn't win 1 game, quote "DONUT, DUCK EGG" etc vs the power of the unbeatable GPS schools.
That proved to be complete dribble, many GPS teams have been absolutely PUMPED by CAS schools in the last few years.
And indeed this home and away system is in it's infancy, for decades the current system was in place.
So that argument is also DEAD.

The competitiveness between the stronger CAS school and GPS, and ISA, is extremely clear, and you know it, results prove it!

This discussion is about evolving OUR schoolboy rugby, and that is it!

Stop overrating your comp, and that is the REAL CRUX of the argument.

Really missed the mark here.
