[The Grail]

Great showing by the ‘view 1s down at Riverview this arvo v Barker. View bounced back from a disappointing loss against Knox last week with a gutsy 24-18 win over Barker, who, might I add, were incredibly physical and certainly held the size advantage as demonstrated in their dominant scrums. Riverview ended up winning it through solid defence, and strong counter attacking footy, including an end to end try late in the first half. Standouts for view included O’Donnell as usual who broke through the Barker line numerous times, Bowen who, despite coming off after the first half, was a crucial playmaker, Granger on the right wing who put on more than a couple bone crunching hits on his opposite number, and the hooker Collins who was rock solid all day. Barker no. 3 was a standout for them, and the Barker pack were solid all through the park but were maybe just out finessed by the View forwards. All in all a great game which leaves the wolves in great stead for the remainder of the season, and silences the critics who predicted that view would be flogged.

Max seemed to be ok when taking the water out to the boys during Joeys totally dominant win over Scots yesterday. A
Quick scan of the results suggests Scots only won 2 games yesterday and were thumped in all the age group A games plus the firsts. As usual Scots got a bit carried away with themselves before the game even started with a bizarre but failed attempt at psyching out the visitors.

I guess we'll see. Hope you're right, but seeing him limp around this week makes me doubt they'll pick him for the CAS game which is only 2.5 weeks away.

For me Knox looked structurally better than Newington. They were able to hold the ball for long periods of time and create pressure.

For me 3 and 12 were good always offloading to players in better positions.

Newington still a work in progress and never gave up

Quick scan of the results suggests Scots only won 2 games yesterday and were thumped in all the age group A games plus the firsts. As usual Scots got a bit carried away with themselves before the game even started with a bizarre but failed attempt at psyching out the visitors.

Joeys played 40 games yesterday (only the 16Cs couldn't get a game) against 11 different schools. Of these 40 games, 21 were against Scots who won 4 of them - 2nds 12-10, 4ths 19-12, 16Ds 26-14 (v Joeys Es) and 14Ds 14-10 (v Joeys Es).

A Grade games were all won by Joeys: 1sts 31-14. 16As 33-7, 15As 47-0, 14As 45-12 and 13As 60-0.

They left the Joeys team waiting at halfway for sometime. When they finally decided to run on they moved slowly to line up in front of the Scots supporters forcing the Joeys boys to move from halfway and lineup near the sideline for the coin toss. If it was meant to psyche out Joeys it didn’t work, the boys took it in their stride. If you know about the history of Joeys rugby then you will know that up until the Newington game in 1990 the Joeys 1st XV and visiting team lined up on the sideline in
Front of the grandstand (comp games only) . On that day Newington refused to line up due to the unfair advantage the tradition gave. Joeys of course weren’t fussed. They jogged out to the centre and gave Newington a hiding. Shortly afterwards the GPS headmasters banned the sideline tradition and I believe Scots were very vocal at the time (ironically the rest of us have to put up with their god awful bagpipes and drums). It was therefore extremely amusing to see Scots try to psyche Joeys out some 30 years later with the sideline setup only to then cop yet another beating.

The best thing about playing Scots in a trial game is that you get to beat them twice in one year.

there were some there who wished that Joeys had held their ground and refused to move from their "proper" place on the halfway line. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened next - perhaps the ref would have ordered one of the teams to move, or maybe just whistled for the game to start after tossing a coin in two different places. In the end, manners prevailed and Joeys jogged over to meet them.

RG, two more weeks before the start of GPS Competition. First game vs the boys from Hunters Hill. Hopefully the coaching staff are working on finalising the team combinations and a more structural and positional game plays.

I love your optimism it will take the coaches more than 2 weeks to wake up and relies what there doing ain’t working and the team Combinations are lacking some skill but definitely Rugby nous ,there needs to be some positional changes but it ain’t going to happen.

I haven’t watched View yet but saw Bowen 2 years ago so wouldn’t argue with that. I would take either of the Joeys centres over the option below at 13. The Scots centres had minimal impact on the game on Saturday.

I haven’t watched View yet but saw Bowen 2 years ago so wouldn’t argue with that. I would take either of the Joeys centres over the option below at 13. The Scots centres had minimal impact on the game on Saturday.

I have watched a bit of Joeys but i would not pick either of those centres in the GPS 1st XV. Personally I would prefer the View 13 Max threkeld, very strong in defense and a great runner, with size backing him. He's played very well this year. I can see the whole view back line making a GPS side, they have been very strong.

I can see the view hooker collins i believe getting a run in one of the four teams. One of the hardest working players i've witnessed in a long time.
