I hope you are keeping well. What I can say Michael and Peter, started their GPS Rugby at Newington, but were offered places at Joeys. So I suspect they maybe related. In those days Newington (1986) lacked the professionalism that Joeys had as a Rugby academy or the money for a scholarship. So their transfer to Joeys was a natural movement. These days I suspect we would keep them.

Newington is an impressive school, and worth every cent of the fees paid by parents, as is Joeys. Equally, a Newington rower in 2012 went to Joeys. So what happened there. Another example is in 1981,a former Riverview Winger finished up in the outstanding 1981 Joeys side. So lets not get to touchy about movements between schools. It happened and will continue to happen. Parents have every right to shop around, for what they consider to be the best for their son.

Word out of Stanmore is that the boys wearing the Black and White have been training the house down. Led by locks William Rumi and Sam Eagleton, expect a big year from those two and possible GPS selection on the cards according to all coaches at Stanmore.

Coaches will never reveal such information at this early stage of the season. I smell the odour of self promotion in this post!

A further rebuttal to your claims of Michael Parker and his attitude to dismantling of Rugby. Can be established by his efforts increasing the number playing fields for New sports teams. Newington together with Marrickville Council, will be co-sharing the management of numerous ovals at the Tempe sports grounds. This will provide extra ovals for training and provide possible grounds for increased numbers of teams in Football and Rugby. Again, hardly the actions of a Headmaster, determined to dismantle Rugby at Newington.

My comment about match-ups is directed at lower grade teams, where Newington play down a grade or two against other schools, win and then talk up their programme. They haven't fielded a team in the 3rd XV comp for years, and have consistently put C teams against other D teams, etc., which inflates their win/loss ratio.

Yep, got that from your last post, which has now mysteriously disappeared, which is a shame as it did much to support my case. Of course, as you'd be aware, Newington has been using Tempe for several years now, so this is no innovative move. And "dismantling of rugby" is your phrase, and has never been a sentiment I have expressed.

No. TAS and Newington were playing together in the GPS 3rd XV comp (having done so for about 4 years) up until five years ago. They then withdrew the following year for the 2017 competition and haven't competed since. Their 3rd XV now play against the other schools' 4th XVs.

Is that some sort of threat. Because clearly you have gone too far. So in view of that threatening remark, I feel I have no alternative but to leave this site. Don't claim victory, I am being the adult and will have nothing to do with a site, where a blogger can make such a threat, and be a thug.

Too the moderates the situation, has clearly gotten out of hand.. But to physical threaten, some one, as he has done, is over the top. "To say my foot is bleeding" clearly makes me, feel concerned for my Physical well being. It slso serves as a clear intention, to conduct a personal assault. Oh, for goodness sake. It means you shot yourself in the foot. I'm sorry you missed the metaphor. I thought the pronoun "your" twice (not "my" the second time) would have made that clear. Please do not turn this into something it isn't. I've only ever been respectful in my discussion of this issue.

Fair enough and I wish to start afresh, so let's move on. In fact, I believe we have more in common than we realise, In that we both believe, that Michael Parker is a brilliant Headmaster. He is a great communxiator and is very intend on raising the standard of teaching and thus the quantity of learning at Newington. He communicators regular with the Newington community and this impresses me immensely. I believe he has the potential to be one of the great Headmasters at Newington. If you haven't done so already, go to Newintgon's web site and get one of his download's. They are usually done ,term by term, where he communicates on what is happening within the school, in that term.

I think you will be impress, by his clarity of speech and the strategic vision, he has for the school.

Hello B & W,

We haven't crossed paths previously due to lack of recent school matchups, but this is the year!
How Good for a change and something new ( no pun)!
We are both passionate old boys and supporters, but in different camps, so here we go!

I am very hopeful that a very special season is upon us in both the GPS and CAS comps.
This includes full spectator attendance, all BBQ's at full steam, in particular the Newie Burger Special etc.

My understanding is that this year, there are many more schools in the running than normal who could win their respective comps. This age group has always had quite a number of very good teams throughout the years.

Prior to our respective comps we all have the "Trial" games between these inter- association schools, which, as I have always said, is the real deal, every 1st XV team wants to beat all comers.
This years matchups will be no different.

All reports are that this years New 1st side is very competitive, with lots of boys back from last year, and it will also be great to see all age groups match up.

Great to see the Jorgensen boys following in the footsteps of their father (or Fathers). So which one belongs to Peter or Michael. Sorry Joker, I cannot resist the temptation to state, where they began their GPS Rugby. Which was ?. Irrespective, I hope we can keep both these boys in Rugby and not finish up paying for Penrith Leages or better than that.

Yes, both boys began at Stanmore. But as their father once said, "while our boys were doing well, Newington rugby was being overlooked for rep honors, so we moved the boys to a school where they will be noticed." No scholarships, just changed the name on top of the cheques.

With 13 boys returning from 2020. It Should be a good game at Death Valley and from what I’m hearing on the platform at stanmore station the boys cannot wait.

Forecast for Saturday 24th April is fine with a top 21 degrees so hopefully it should be a good day rugby.

Hi L2S,

I think we can all sense the expectation level for this years footy, after last years events.
Clearly New should be better placed this year with a more experienced player roster, and you would expect they are definitely in the mix against all comers.

As you know the first few games, for all teams, can be a bit scratchy/rusty as teams aren't finalised and typically don't have it all together, but I am sure they are all buzzing to get going after a lot of preseason training.

There are some great matchups in other games, eg Joeys v Knox etc, hope supporters post scores and thoughts.

Yep, the weather is looking really good for all games, and the grounds are also in tip top shape.
I can smell the BBQ's already! How good!

Sounds like you will be there? Is B&W a potential spectator?
