With all due respect, "a History teacher with a particular passion for Military History" should know the difference between Yamoto and Yamamoto. It's OK to offer an opinion, but please don't do so on the back of professing to be an academic when the basic tenets of expression suggest otherwise, as done many times on this forum (eg., previous recent post using "versing" as a verb - since deleted - is one among many supportive examples). The other issue I have with your recent posts is the Newington rugby result last week, and the impact that athletics had on on this. You ignore the fact that Grammar competed in the same GPS Athletics carnival, and that they too were severely understrength. Given comparative talent measures (numbers and depth), I would have assumed that Grammar's rugby withdrawals would have had a greater impact on their ability to compete at the top level than Newington's. I reckon even legendary Sportsmasters Masher and Hinksy would nod in agreement.

Too Long didn't read.. Lost me at the first half.

Yours cordially,

TDO.

Warm welcome to you, alias: "The Discreet Poo".

By question of the name, did you get called that on the field?

TDO.

TDO,

indeed, engraved onto the back of my graduation jumper in 2007, 'the discreet poo' was a nickname given to me through the combination of my quick yet silent feet on the pitch and my golden skin complexion. Christ I miss it...

Regards,

the discreet poo.

Evening Alias "WLF",

I believe the Joker has stated his thoughts strongly on not combining the GPS and CAS. Which are keeping them separate.

I do like the idea, yet these boys only have so much rugby and such little time on their hands. I feel as though there wouldn't be enough room to fit these competitions in.

Do not forget we do have Australian Schoolboys playing internationally, also never forget the broken 7 year drought against New Zealand.

If we were to adopt this how would you fit it in? Thoughts?

TDO.

Yep, this is NOT a new topic and the Jokers views, and many others, are well noted against such a new venture, and for traditions sake that's understood, and tradition is important.

A view is to have divisions that group relevant performing schools in divisions, possibly by age group or maybe it starts at a certain age level, with a promotion/relegation each year.

The current trials period, where typically the GPS play the CAS and ISA schools, then the GPS play their own 5 GPS games, could become a 12-16 game comp that covers all the games of top 6-8 schools, likewise in the other divisions.
Within those 12-16 games the best performers of the GPS ,CAS,ISA etc win their own associations comp, same as current, but in the end, there is an ultimate winner. (which has often been a discussion, as to which school is really the best)

Such a grouping should also make games closer, more enjoyable ( as opposed to being flogged each week), and ideally safer for those involved (as teams are more evenly matched).

I am a CAS person, but hope this just opens up discussion.

Good evening Up and In

There’s really no need to become so barbarous to other members of the forum.

This place is somewhere we can share our love of the AAGPS competition, not one to take subtle digs at others.

Please resort to “facebook messenger” if you have any personal queries to raise or I will report you to the inquisitors.

I digress,

My current fear is the 30mm of rain the bureau of meteorology has forecast for the coming Friday and Saturday, something that can significantly effect the fields of our hallowed colleges.

Does anyone have any further information on GPS policy during wet weather conditions.

Kindest of regards

Whilst my head tells me “we must better the grassroots through a combined schoolboy competition based on team ability”,

My heart is telling me “what about the tradition, what about Riverview vs Joeys”

I cannot comment on my feelings thus far, as my heart and mind are torn.

I think that long term for the betterment of the game, we must pursue a combined competition, but I’m a conservative at heart and would hate to see the abandonment of a competition that has withstood the test of time.

Well said, alias: "WLF".

Just those 12-16 game tournaments are gigantic compared to the five round GPS competition.

Yes if you can pull it off with costs, injuries, commitments. It would be fantastic, high quality footy, more even match ups and more importantly everyone has a game on the weekend, no byes or internal matches.

Also the time period of this season would be over half a year, ruling summer sport choices out.
(Would be great), yet schools have obligations to offer these sports at these schools (i.e. funding, parents involvement, old boys associations and the like).

A fantastic article on this: https://nsw.rugby/news/2019/11/08/schools-rugby-inter-association-competition-isa-gps-cas-round-five

Evening, alias "The Business"

Would love to see these games on regardless of the weather. Time to get the jerseys dirty i say.

Wouldn't hurt to have some good mileage on their respective fields, not like they're being used by many teams every weekend and give the groundsmen some work.

Where is this 3rd XV clash? Unsure if at View or Joeys.

TDO, it’s Hammer here.

Whilst unsure on the whereabouts of the game this weekend, I couldn’t agree more with you on your comment about “getting the jerseys dirty”.

I’m sure the lads from any school would be happy to play through hurricane Katrina it’s been that long since they’ve been out on the paddock.

And for the grounds men? Considering they haven’t had much to do in the past 3-4 months, they should be fine with a week or two of difficult upkeep.

Looking forward to it.

Hello TDO.

The 3rd XV game is at Riverview. Not sure what field the game will be played on, though I did notice the posts have been erected on No 1 and No 4 fields.

I’ll definitely be docking on the Riverview wharf to get a look at the 3rds fixture.

Rumours of Joeys 3rds preparing to press the edges to utilise kicking, clearly trying to make the best of the conditions.

Let’s hope it’s not something of a pathetic fallacious nature for these Views boys and that it’s a tight contest.

More to come,
Br. Joseph

Joeys boys have no issue with filthy jerseys
This photo of the late Peter Palmer was taken on number 1 before the field was upgraded.
Joeys number 1 was once a bog when it rained many years ago.

It wasn’t long ago (2014 if my mathematics is correct) when the St Iggies 1st oval would be a mud bath after a hint of rain.

The Joeys vs Riverview game with Henry Hutchinson’s jersey covered in mud comes to mind.

The Joeys v Riverview game in 2006 was also played in extremely muddy conditions

Ahhhhhhh,

And so another day begins.

The sun shines upon the shingled terraces of the GPS colleges,

And I cant help but think how privileged we are to get a season this year,

After much uncertainty we have been blessed by good fortune in NSW, and our men are allowed to get rough and dirty on the "footy field."

With the first trial match between Riverview and Shore, I was wondering if anyone knew about Shore's strength this year?
Will it be the same as previous ones, whereby they have struggled to win, or have they recovered from their rut and are beginning to rebuild.

Be sure to let me know,

Kind regards,

The Business

Hello avid AAGPS followers,

Requesting thoughts on whether all three O’Kane triplets will make the firsts at Joeys, and maybe even full 1sts GPS rep.

Specifically Henry and Tom, not too sure about Matt

Br. Joseph

Reverend,

As far as I’ve been told, Henry was the only pup in the litter.

Can someone confirm?

Morning, alias: "The Business"

Was admiring Views no. 1 this early morning when dropping the pup to school.

The fields do look pristine, I'd say the groundsmen are getting bored.
