Yes, it wasn't a classic battle. Waverley did butcher a couple of tries and when you're playing a team bigger 'n better than you, you need to take every opportunity. Waverley still wouldn't have won I think but it would have been closer. I also thought that Waverley missed their captain Molloy (out with concussion from last week). Still, it's not what could have been it's what it is and it was a solid victory for Scots, deservedly so.
I have no idea how the sportsmasters match up the pre-CAS/GPS rounds but I would have thought that a Waverley/Scots round would have been an annual gimme given the proximity (always attractive to parents) of the schools. Still, I'm sure there's a good reason.

Fascinating victory for Trinity over Joeys. The difference between GPS & CAS at the top level has certainly narrowed significantly over the last few years, and while there is still a disparity in depth, from Waverley's results against Shore, Riverview & Scots this year, that has certainly narrowed considerably. And with the Waratahs winning tonight perhaps there is still life in the game yet.

A change of wingers isn’t going to change a 70 nil score line but it looks pretty bad when you’re losing 70 and 80 nil and there are standouts in the 2nds that aren’t getting a run on when the team is 50-0 down. There were a lot of Shore boys who’d made the trip to Hornsby despite the team going down by 80 the week before and I can imagine they’d have been frustrated not seeing what they believe (and probably quite rightly) isn’t the best team on the field.

Inches and Shrosbree still controlling 1st XV from what I can tell. I believe Macqueen has had a lot today with the implementation of the new school wide structure but am unsure if he's involved much with selections etc. It's early days but there are definitely signs that the new structure is working, Shore 2nds to 4ths today looked well organised (admittedly against weaker sides than some of those they'll meet in the GPS comp). The 14As had a good win last week over Joeys and the 13s and 15s look like they'll be genuinely competitive in their competitions.
That Newington team doesnt look like last years 15As, must be a few players now in the opens. If I remember correctly last years Scots 15As lost their last game to Shore.

The Shore 15a’s had a big win over Barker yesterday. Something is missing at Shore in the top age group side vs other schools between the 14-15s age group and the opens. The top Shore teams in age groups from U10 to U15, win all or the vast majority of their games. Apart from the issue that can’t be discussed on this thread, I’m not sure what the problem is. Opens goes down to the 8ths! so it’s not participation. The hope was that if Shore 1sts play 5 CAS schools then 5 GPS schools, they may win about half their games but that hope has now gone.

By my observation of yesterday’s match against Waves, the Pods were far less so than in recent previous Seasons.
On the other hand, the named 10 played at FB for the first half, the 12 at flyhalf, the named FB at left wing, with the right wing caught scoring down the left! Coach Smith was having his fun!

It's more the case that the rowers tend to pick sports like "cross-country" with one training session a week and are useful for keeping up general fitness.

Take it all w/ a wee grain of salt because, for example, the result at Scots was actually 45-19! No idea on the provenance of the other results mentioned.
Kings and Joeys surprised, though for slightly different reasons. But subject to any injury reports, nothing too much has changed.

Not true. There are rowers playing rugby this year. Last year there weren’t. There is no edict that they can’t. Last years head boy went from 2nd viii to 1st XV. Depends on the kid but there is no policy.

Just because you go to a GPS school, and are the best player in your position at the school doesn't automatically make you a great player, who is true 1st XV material. Throughout all of Sydney, we are seeing floggings week in, and week out. The whole schoolboy rugby program needs to change.
Why is it, that the Shore 2nd XV has won 4/5 games so far this pre-season, when the 1sts can't even compete? This 2nd XV team in my opinion, will be battling it out with Joeys for the premiership.
