Riverview v Scots at Lane Cove
The recent championships showed again the quality of the individual Scots product. Many have found over the past six seasons, the Scots imported ingredients from the science labs of Sochi very hard to replicate in their local kitchens. There is though an ingredient not found too often in the Bellevue pastries. I speak of resilience. No one can deny the Bellevue Belyash Pie to be an incredible experience, it is though when faced with a contest in another playground does Scots falter at times. In the past we have seen struggle away from hom by muddle their way through. While playing at the Death Star (Scots Main) gives them confidence knowing that their secret special half-time milkshakes will help, Scots do not always travel well to other star systems were ready access to the sports lab is not possible. This weekend they face the brave blue and white rebels of Lane Cove. Inspired by the knowledge that playing in the Dagobah swamp bowl may create doubt in the usual sure footed Scots storm troopers. Riverview, to be honest, like nothing more than making doubters eat their short crust and hence this weekend they expect the Curry Lamb Pot Pie from The Cakeman bakery could create such a situation. Will the Dark Empire prevail? I am calling this a close one with the Lane Cove rebel alliance squeaking one out. Riverview by one ewok.
.
Love it. Although with 11 of Scots 15 having just spent 2 weeks at Riverview for Nationals camp/matches, Lane Cove is probably not feeling like as much of an 'away game' as would usually be the case.

Meanwhile NZ Schools Rugby is televised with commentators.

And this highlights their silly faces pregame competition.

A slight diversion to normal service:

Newington have won the GPS rifle shooting for the 2nd consecutive year, narrowly defeating Shore. Something of a roll as the most recent win before these was in 1935:)

Back to the rugby.

QH, please don't take this the wrong way but WOW, sounds like an athletic sport!
One of my old time fav TV shows was the Beverley Hillbillies, how many crawdads did New shoot?

P.S. Loved Jethro!

Back to the rugby.

At Joeys we don't do rifle shooting anymore. We found that pig dogs don't have to be reloaded.
Well done New.

Joker, firstly your recent pre-game synopsis was as usual bloody funny.
On that note, Jethro Bodine was unknowingly also bloody funny, a rel?

Back to the rugby.

Great result for New @QH. To win against rivals who are mostly brought up with guns gives the city boys massive bragging rights especially given shooting is one of the 5 original AAGPS sports.

Any wild pigs around Stanmore will be very afraid at the moment.:)

Interestingly in the past 10 years, 7 schools have won (including joint premierships). Joeys and Riverview being the only GPS schools not to win in that time.

In fact Joeys have never won a shooting title.
It seems Joeys boys like their targets crashing through the bush or hopping over the paddock.
You can't hang a small bore target from the back of your ute.

Grammar over Shore in the 3s at Northbridge was 15-12 to Grammar with 5 to go but Grammar scored to put it out of Shore’s reach.

Marvellous morning at Hunters Hill, great atmosphere across the playing fields.

Newington 15As lost to SJC 43-14 but the first half, in particular, was a great contest.
New 16As lost 12-5.

Entertaining games with TAS games interspersed with the Newington ones. When I left the day was building up to the all-important 13As game on College fields. And the other ones mentioned above.
