CAS people are aware of past results but we're enjoying this year. It's been good so far.
would you agree?

Good years come and go ...... long term averages tell the facts ....... those are the facts that you choose to deny ........ back to other thread for you .... you have at least another "40 good years " before you will have any long term credibility on this thread .......

My mail is the CAS/GPS thing will continue next season as a comp, with some ISA school/s thrown in.

Isnt it amazing . the poor little GPS-O-PHILES get their precious egos bruised by CAS trouncing them to NIL and Waverley College rugby hits a purple patch; dominates fancied GPS teams, so then people go fishing for the ''scholarship'' element in the equation.

''They must be offering scholarships to their rugby players; they cant be that good. They couldn't have beaten us fair and square''

Its funny to see how the sooks react when beaten.

I will look into this. Or someone else will confirm.

I know Waverley College does not go fishing for talented rugby players and offer them scholarships to switch camps. That is not the reason for the success.

I attended a GPS school and I support that school. I also note that Waves, Barker, Knox wonderful schools and would have no hesitation sending my lads to these schools.


I do also note that all schools fund players irrespective of sport. It just the nature of the beast

About as much as the rumour that CAS & ISA were combining without GPS would get up yours.

Whichever stupid rumour gets up all that will have been achieved is that resources and talent will be further concentrated in the private system.

Junior clubland and public schools rugby will continue to deteriorate like an old Roman ruin while Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus rosin's up his bow.

I have no snobbery issues or problems with a changing competition format, as long as it involves competition games and not trials.

I can see the changes as hopefully being of a long term benefit with the public schools being dragged into a tiered Saturday schools competition.

Unfortunately, the governing bodies let rugby slip out of the public schools system a long time ago and have a helluva lot of work to do to restore it.

Interesting yarn in today's SMH Fitz Files

Some of you were there. It was a brisk Saturday afternoon at Hunters Hill, 1987 on Joeys' No.1 Oval as their mighty 1st XV took on the brave challengers from Scots College 1st XV. It is a dour struggle as the brilliance of Joeys is all but evenly countered by the sheer resilience and never-say-die of Scots, with Joeys just ahead in the final minute, until . Until just as the Joeys backs are unveiling a silky move right on the Scots line, young Craig Baker, out on the Scots wing, takes matters into his own hands. As a looping Joeys pass heads his way, he decides to take his chances, and goes for the ball. He's got it! He's off. Baker sets sail for the Joeys line 90 metres away, with the entire Joeys team after him, with history on his shoulder and . gets there! Under the posts, you bloody beauty, and Scots indeed secure an iconic 10-6 victory, as history indeed smiles.

Fast forward now to two Saturdays ago. Similar day. Similar scene. And blow me down if Joeys don't unveil much the same move, only for the Scots winger, yes, Charlie Baker to intercept, and run away for the killer try! Scots go on to win 23-19. Like father, like son, and well done, the fabulous Baker boys. Deja vu, all over again, AGAIN!

Ha. Onya Fitzy. My moniker might give some clues but ask the Kings players about 1987 and the 2nd half v Scots which went for 50 minutes with kings in front the whole time until a kickable penalty to scots was eventually awarded.

I saw Craig out at kings a couple of weeks ago cheering on his twin boys, a very proud man, and rightly so. Just to add interest, Charlie Crichton, father of Angus, was also in that scots '87 team.

Maybe he was worried the wonder team might get beat ?

Unsubstantiated gossip.
Waverley have played Scots in trials in recent times and competed against them 2 years ago in their Sevens comp.

Surely no one, not even you, would think Waverley are worried that ''they might get beat" by anyone.

and it's ''the wonder team'' now? it just keeps getting better.

Waverley, the battlers, the working class boys who have worked their butts off to succeed; who have been blessed to have such a good crop of players this year; coached by humble and dedicated teacher/coaches, one of whom coached the winning CAS 1st XV side that convincingly beat GPS, are the subject of the tall poppy syndrome now?

And you've been reading postings on the CAS thread? Gathering ammunition? Admittedly, it hasn't been a good time for you.

No trolling here; just replies to inane cheap shot postings. They look to have stopped now ..... maybe.

Yeah, a little bit of gloating but not too much. A little bit of fun as well but not too much. Not as much as you had predicting CAS/GPS trial results (unsuccessfully). Not that I was too keen on all the trials, but some of the results were interesting (for trial matches).

Now it's onto bigger and better things, namely, the Nationals. I've got a feeling Queensland will be strong this year.

Oh sorry, just wait a few minutes as I just split my sides laughing and need to stitch myself up. Anyhow you are right that trials don't matter and strangely enough I agree with your comment below from post 1039 of this esteemed thread, when you said....,

Except the trials this year weren't just your normal pre-season trials were they? They were a little more serious so gained a little more credence.

I thought the one trial match that was really fair dinkum was the Joeys Waverley game. It was a big occasion for both schools due to history and tradition.

However, try not to dwell on it.
