Coach calls fans to Fill the Hill

October 14, 2019

Tim Sampson has called on all Western Force fans to get behind the club ahead of the blockbuster home semi-final clash against Brisbane City.
Force was crowned Minor Premiers of the National Rugby Championship, following a strong 57-33 victory over Sydney in the final round of the regular season. Sampson stated the players excitement heading into the Force’s first home NRC semi-final and highlighted the motivating factor of playing at home at UWA Sports Park in front of the Sea of Blue.
“In finals footy, you need that little bit of lift to get you over the line at the back end of a game. Filling the Hill with a lot of blue jerseys and t-shirts at MacGillvray will be fantastic.” said Sampson.
The Force and Brisbane City will battle it out for a place in the NRC Grand Final at 12pm at UWA Sports Park this Saturday.

Fantastic to hear Tim give the locally grown lads and new players being given a go such a good wrap.

Thanks Minderoo/Andrew Forrest for keeping this development pathway to professional rugby open in WA.

Forward-pack driving Force to Semi-Final

October 16, 2019

After a second year topping the tackling and ball-carrying charts for the Western Force, flanker Fergus Lee-Warner headlines the team’s long list of quiet achievers.

Combining with the side’s explosive attacking talent, Force’s juggernaut forwards will be integral to halting Brisbane City in the National Rugby Championship Semi-Final this Saturday. The Sydney born flanker insists the platform for the team’s dominance has been laid down by the formidable forward pack.

I think Lee-Warner is a top class player, and has been for the past couple of years. I have to admit though that I've never seen him play flanker, or anywhere other than in the second row. I would have him as one of the locks in a combined best team from the NRC.

Why TBA for the reserve tighthead?

The finals will be a real test of the depth of the WF squad.

Very happy with this side considering the loss of so many regular starting XV players due to injuries and RWC duties:
Henry Taefu, Kieran Longbottom, Johan Bardoul, Chris Alcock, Brynard Stander, Ian Prior, AJ Alatimu, Marcel Brache and Brad Lacey.

Pleasing to see so many players from interstate and local club rugby getting a chance in the NRC including:
Pama Fou, Byron Ralston, Dom Hardman, Aisake Meo, Rory O'Sullivan, Jake Strachan as well as former WF player CTM.

McRieght & Ruan Smith on the injured list?
Team leaders BPA, Korczyk, Lucas and Hegarty need to step up with more talk if they want to get close. What’s McReight’s injury? With early Reds’ pre-season and a good chance of the game 23 players it would want to be minor.

If Brisbane City and Canberra Vikings win, be a cracking weekend of footy in the capital next week with Uni 7s final round on as well.
