Greater Sydney Rams 2015 Form Guide: LBLLLLW
Perth Spirit 2015 Form Guide: LLLLWWL

Last Time They Met: 06 September 2014; Perth Spirit 34 defeated by Greater Sydney Rams 44; Adelaide Airport Stadium, Adelaide

Match Notes: Perth Spirit need a convincing win in the Harbour City to give themselves a mathematical chance of finals football. Greater Sydney Rams' victory last week against the Rays was their first Buildcorp NRC win since defeating Brisbane City in Round 7 in 2014 - a run of six matches.

G&GR Preview (@Rugby Reg says) http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/nrc-round-8-preview-2/:
It’s all or nothing for the Spirit this weekend. They need a big win with a bonus point to have any chance of sneaking into the finals as they have the bye next weekend. They’ll be up against qualification but in their favour is that they are playing the Rams, with only one team this season, and they have the best for and against other than Canberra and Brisbane. If they can sneak into the finals, as per last year, we know anything is possible.
The Rams are officially on a winning streak; however, as they enjoyed their first win of the season last Thursday night against the equally low lying North Harbour Rays. An upset big win could even see them leap frog the Spirit on the ladder, so there’s still much to play for.
And just to keep in the RWC theme of things this match will be played at Concord Oval, which of course was the Australian ‘home’ of the 1987 RWC, and where that famous semi-final against the French was played. A great opportunity to get down to remember the past and watch the stars of tomorrow.
Key Matchups:
Michael McDougall recent run of form in the NRC has been excellent. Whilst the backline has chopped and changed around him, McDougall has been a constant at inside centre and a consistently high performer with his astute line running and solid defense. He’ll likely be up against Kyle Godwin of the Spirit who is another who’s is enjoying a purple patch of NRC form. Godwin will provde a handful for McDougall with his strength on the ball and his skills from hand and foot.

At number 8 we May well see a contest between two tough as nails absolute competitors in Angus Cottrell and Jed Holloway. It can get a little old reading it, but Jed is the heart and soul of the Rams and his physicality is a feature of their play. Cottrell has more support in the back row combination for the Spirit, but has been a class act in each of his appearances. Close to Wallaby selection not too long ago, his play for the Spirit this year has proven why.

Coming off a win last week the PCS Greater Sydney Rams have another home game, this Saturday at Concord Oval, against the Perth Spirit. Kick off is at 3pm.

Jed Gillespie and Cameron Betham both return to the starting front row this week, to pack in alongside Hugh Roach. Will Munro gets his first start of the season, having featured in all games so far off the bench, and will partner Jake Douglas in the second row. The back row of Hayes, Masson and Holloway has been maintained for the second week in a row.

The backline has a very familiar look to last weeks with one key change. Afa Pakalani moves from fullback to the wing with BJ Hartmann slotting in at the back.

Matt Gibbon will get his chance as replacement front rower off the bench this week. Brad Kapa also returns to the side after some good performances for the development team. Taylor Adams and Brad Curtis are also back after missing last weeks game.

The Perth Spirit will look to finish the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship regular season off on a high when they take on the Greater Sydney Rams at Concord Oval in Sydney on Saturday.

The Perth-based team’s loss to the NSW Country Eagles last weekend means that the Spirit must win on Saturday, as well as relying on other results to qualify for the finals series.

The Spirit faces an in-form Rams team this weekend and will need to be at their best to get the win.

Front-rower Francois van Wyk returns, with Future Force academy product Harry Scoble receiving his first start of the season at hooker.

Cottesloe’s Adrian Hall comes back into the starting team after another impressive performance off the bench last week and will line up alongside Gulls teammate Ross Haylett-Petty.

After another imposing game off the bench last weekend, Wests Scarborough captain Pierre Roberts, earns a starting spot in the ‘6’ jersey, with fellow Pindan Premier Grade teammate Kane Koteka beside him at openside flanker

Ryan Louwrens will start at scrumhalf, with Western Force adversary Ian Prior starting at flyhalf, with Luke Burton sidelined with a hand injury.

Superstar Kyle Godwin is back and will look to keep a solid partnership going with Joondalup’s Maalonga Konelio in the centres.

Pindan Premier Grade stars Anaru Rangi, Jermaine Ainsley and Auega Seumanutafa are all back in the team, providing strong support off the bench. Nick Jooste also comes back into the team, after completing his duties for the Australian Schoolboys in their recent Tri Nations tournament.

Perth Spirit head coach Tai McIsaac, says the team is firmly focusing on getting the win against the Rams.

“We’re not clouding the boys minds with what may happen beyond this weekend, we just want them to go out there, play some good rugby, hopefully get the win and enjoy themselves.”

“This week provides another great opportunity for the team to grow and showcase what we can do."

Switched onto to have a look at this game after watching Vikings - BRC game...but saw Perth already at 53 points so will watch the Rays - QLD country game as much closer game.

Ps. they have to sort out putting the camera's on the stands/side where the crowds are as to see in background an empty stand is just so unappealing.....surely this is 101 for a sport telecast....

No excuses for this - they need to sort this out.

Perth spirit should have qualified for finals if they committed to have their best side put out every week....

I get development purposes......but...

Ryan Louwrens gets a double but Prior can't add the extras.

Afa Pakalani replys for the Rams, and the little kiwi (Adams) converts to take the score to 58 - 34.

Try Will Munro for the Rams. Not Converted by Adams. Rams now 39 points.

Double for Nikoro, unconverted. PER 63 - Rams 39

That is 102 points.

Siren sounded two minutes ago and still they play on.

Knock on. Game over. That's all folks.
