City haven't been challenged for the Horan Little shield and intend on defending it at their first home game.

For @Gnostic. 14 of the City team have no super rugby experience.

The match-day 23 features 10 players from last year’s squad, with another nine making their Brisbane City debut. There are nine players with Super Rugby experience, as well as a healthy representation from BLK Queensland Premier Rugby, with eight of the nine clubs having players selected for the opening match.

Hunt out for the season and Laloifi will miss most of it. That has brought the team down with a bit of a thud I reckon. The EAgles should match up very well this weekend.

Weakest City side since 2014? No Frisby, McIntyre, Kerevi, Hunt Lalaoifi or Taefu from last years all conquering backline, plus no Neville, or Gill.

There seems to be a number of unexplained absences here (Taefu, McIntyre)? Team is green but has promise. Looking forward to what they are able to deliver under Rod Seib. From what I saw of Sunnybank this year, his team played a great attacking style of rugby, maximising counter attack opportunities and fast play (quick taps, recycles). However they will be underdogs no doubt. I'm expecting Sorovi to be given a similar role as Fines to encourage his natural attacking instincts. With a young backline with hardly any established leaders they will be given some degree of freedom (I hope).

Yeah, Taefu recently had surgery.

McIntyre recovering from ankle issue and should be back next week.

Frisby called back into the Wallaby squad.

Hunt gone for the season.

Laloifi for most of it.

What's wrong with Hunt? Karmichael seems to be going down injured with some regularity since his return to rugby.

What's the story with Horwitz playing 13? Seems to be shifted wider as he develops.

I guess a toss up between him and Godwin in having two 12s in the side.

Godwin has obviously played a fair bit of 13 (but it hasn't been close to his best position).

I guess we'll see how this works out for the Eagles.

The Deegan Horwitz combination was shown to be defensively weak in Shute Shield. Perhaps Godwin is there to put a wedge between the two.

I think NSW Country will deal Brisbane City a pretty heavy loss here.

A young and inexperienced 9-10-12-15 combination for City and a weaker-than-usual forward pack up against a very strong looking Country team.

Bookies have Country at $8.50 to win the comp, but that'll drop very quickly when they beat City ($2.43) methinks. I'm getting on it now

If only Country kept Lance, they'd be out and out favourites for sure. I do like Deegan but it's not the same

Any news on when Paddy Ryan, Folau Fainga'a and Tom Robertson will appear for Country? Add in Tolu Latu and that will be a very strong front row unit at this level

Yeah. I think the Eagles will get up.

Robertson is still with the wallabies. Hopefully game time in the NRC next week?
