You can also understand why the North Harbour Rays moved from Brookvale Oval as well, ground hire fees and associated costs vary region to region and also fluctuate based on the expected crowd, but this will give you a rough idea of the cost in hosting a match:

I remember reading that AAMI Park was costing MCFC around $65'000 a match for ground hire, I think NIB Stadium in Perth is actually the worst. I can't remember the actual figures but it was close to $100'000 on ground hire alone.

Whilst the move to suburban grounds has impacted on crowds, it will also reduce the match day expenses and overheads meaning the clubs will probably pull a bigger profit from the game then they would have if it were still at the bigger stadiums.
When Clive Palmer had a soccer team he tried to keep his crowds low as when you hit a certain number the hiring fees skyrocketed.

It was better to have less than 4500 than 10000 due to the fee structure.

So lower crowds as move to suburban games but clubs stay financially viable...whilst we also now have live streams for all games - wonder what viewer numbers for Foxtel Thursday nights and live streams are like....and whether getting higher number of viewers than last year say for Thursday nights....

It was the last round of AAGPS rugby on Saturday with big games and big crowds at the three main venues, Stanmore, Northbridge and Kings.

Would this have had some impact on the crowd for the Sydney NRC Saturday afternoon game at Leichhardt Oval?

Reasonable crowd at a small club ground for Eagles v Stars in Tamworth. Maybe 1500.

So the NRC website has said 'around 3000' at the Vikings-Rays match.

Can anyone who was there confirm the crowd?

Decent crowd if true, but we all know about the ARU and their numbers.....

I believe @Nelson Dale had 2600 on his GAGR match report for the Stars-Rams, so decent turnout both ways.

Any other numbers for the round?
