I actually don't think there is one magic silver bullet to grow the interest in NRC and will take a lot of work and effort....including marketing effort..learning what works and doesn't work...

More content on fox yes...but need to make sure it gets the ratings....unrealistic to probably expect them to broadcast all games at this stage till prove up demand ratings wise for the product...

If ARU approaches Fox showing a better marketing plan for NRC next season maybe might be able to push for another game a week...

Why does the NRL manage good viewing number then when the vast majority of their games are played in front of 10,000 people?

Answered your own question; why take the family out to one game when you can pay the same per month to see all of them?

Here are the average crowds from the first 6 Rounds of 2014, i stopped keeping track after Rd 6 but they should be useful to make comparisons to the crowd in 2015.

Brisbane City vs Sydney Stars attracted 3'408 to the season opener, it will be interesting to see how the crowd fares for the Brisbane City vs Perth Spirit 2015 season opener.

Hopefully crowd figures will be up on last year, but this will only happen with more promotion, and there really doesn't appear to have been a hell of a lot of that going on.

Depends on each venue, one of the reasons Rams are playing at Concord and I assume Merrylands and Forshaw is that much of the staff will be there for free as food and drink sales go to club hosting game, I think Pirtek costs a lot more in hire terms but the council helps out (I may be wrong but I think its right) but staff there will not be doing it for free like the other venues.
It will be similar to last weekends grand final, if you went there, at many grounds in NSW I reckon.
Get down to Merrylands on Saturday HJ and sample the fantastic hospitality of the MTB's!

Well thats actually a good point to raise, many of the teams(Rays, Rising, Rams) have moved to cheaper stadium for 2015, the byproduct of this is that some of these stadiums are less accessible and don't have the amentities of the bigger stadiums. But, the lower overheads mean the crowd required to generate a profit is lower and potential profit margins are greater.

So, it'll be interesting to see whether the move to suburban grounds adversely impacts on the crowds of those teams.

I am well acquainted with the BBQ and Canteen offerings of the MP2B's, and have praised such on the Shute Shield BBQ & Canteen thread on occasions.

Belly (& Mrs Belly 2 Blues) and the volunteer crew in the Canteen and on the hot plate do a fantastic job.

Hiring 3 or 4 licensed security blokes for "crowd control" and RSA purposes on top of the usual venue costs can be the difference between profit and loss.

Sorry HJ wasnt inferring you dont know what your talking about or anything like that, quite the opposite your work and knowledge here is appreciated by all.
I know you are a fan of the offerings at Merrylands and saturday will be everyones only chance to sample the "best food in the NRC".
N.B. I have no actual idea of the offerings at any of the smaller grounds that are not Shute Shield venues

I think the RSL may help with the security/RSA elements, again not sure but Club Burwood do for Pirates so I assume a similar role for Merrylands RSL and Two Blues is in place.

Hopefully Merrylands gets a similar turnout to the Tahs game at the start of the year.

Well one advantage of playing at different suburban grounds is likelihood that grounds near fans and tempted to go along and try out what has to offer. Stars supporter as leichardt oval right next door but concord oval equally close so will go along to that rams game given so close to home.

Given size of crowds makes much more sense to player at smaller grounds to keep costs under control.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this but playing a game on Saturday/Sunday afternoon at this time of the year is a waste of time if your trying to attract family's as most of us have kids playing on one or both of the days. And the older the kids get the later it is. I really would have liked to get to the Rays game this weekend.

I am assuming Manly will have to hire lights for the TV game in a few weeks. North Sydney could have been an option for a night game for the Rays.

Agreed Reg, my kids wanted to go to Ballymore last night (so did I) but it wouldn't have finished until 9pm, which means getting home really late etc and they're in primary school, so way too late for a Thursday. If it was a weekend afternoon however we'd have been there, like we were last year.

Disappointing crowd too - probably reflects on being a weeknight - considering a few weeks ago we had nearly 9000 there for Easts vs Souths, to get less than 3000 for the NRC is not good.

Yep, on a school night, unless you live close, it's just a bit too much effort.

I don't finish work until 5:30 and am then looking at probably 1-1.5hrs to get there. After the game it will take the usual age to get out of Ballymore, then the 1.5hr drive home and still have to front up to work the next day

I can watch it on TV with the fire on, pants optional. No brainer.

I'm not sure how they do it but how about a 6.30 kick off for the Saturday game. Leave the Thursday TV game alone, I understand the reasons for it. I'd just like the Saturday games to be more available to the kids who play in the afternoons on the Saturday, the Sunday 3pm is marginally better as a lot of the older boys stop playing club in the last couple of years at school it's very hard on the body when they play two games a weekend all season.i know many of the boys who played with my son dropped out in u16 or their school pushed them too.
