Terrific. Well done Noddy. Well done GAGR. I eagerly await numbers 14-1 getting to the ARU site.

yeah, good stuff for the Blog.

Gagger's been working hard on the ARU relationship and there's some great stuff on the way, and already happening.

Like an Anschluss (with the ARU site being Austria, of course)?

One thing I don't understand in the article is that you say AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) gets over the gain line "considerably more than his ‘competition’", yet have Hynes' "%carried ball over the gain line" at 86.67% and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)'s at only 80.48%.

I think Noddy is saying that AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) makes more metres over the gain line but he is not getting over the "a" line as often as Hynes though.

Another mistake is that you say that Hynes has the lowest number of ball carries.

Last time I checked 7.40 (Hynes) > 7.33 (O'Connor)

It's a small error, but if you're going to be submitting for rugby.com.au you'd want to get those things right.

Then wouldn't that then put O'Connor ahead of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)? 128.67 run metres gained vs 119.43.

True, didn't bother checking JOC (James O'Connor). Ok how can we twist these stats to work :lmao: . Assume metres gained doesn't equal metres gained over the advatage line have but just metres run with the ball we get:

Proportion of metres over gain line
Hynes 94.8 * 86.67% = 82.16316
JOC (James O'Connor) 128.67 * 62.22% = 80.058474
AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) 119.43 * 80.48% = 96.117264

Sure, that works. Why not? :thumb

Looks to me like the stats paint Hynes as the most effective fullback option. Whether he runs or kicks he makes the most ground. Having said that the Reds have yet to play the Stormers or the Bulls. So we won't know the full story until the end of the season.

Guys that is superb. Really well done. As for the stats errors, there are journalists who make far more fundamental mistakes than that and they work full time and are paid.

Maybe you could set up a G&GR proof reading thread which is locked if you want some constructive feedback (or want to give the pedants a chance to exercise their skills).

Hope to see more.

yeah, picked those up after it was printed it. I think it was a case of the ARU held the story for a couple of weeks. I updated the stats once, which changed some of the comments, but didn't pick it up in all the comments.

It'll be reposted on the blog soon with appropriate updates.

Valid points about fact checking though.
