The ARU already has a rule for everyone under 12 that you must give the opposition players if they are short on numbers.

Also, in all the Sydney age comps - to under 18's, the point's differential is capped at 50 - you can score more, but you'll only get credit for 50.

Come Tri-Nations and World Cup time, they're gonna need this rule by the time we're done with 'em! Amiright!

They used to do this 60 years ago when I was a young 'un over there. If you were ahead by so many, (I forget how many) the forwards of one team had to play with the backs of the other in the second half, with the score at half-time being deemed the final score.

I played for a gun team called Sydenham and the coach was ropeable if we passed the limit at half time. Then in the 2nd half we would play our best.

Our coach was not touchy, feely and neither were the lads. When my lads played for Narrabeen, Newport had this gun team. They had this monster forward called "Big Ollie" and every possession was a score to somebody.

Their coach had a rule that no boy could score more than one try per match. It taught their lads positive teamwork.

What about weight for age, would that be a better system? I had thought the Kiwis do a variation on this.

This is a tough one with good arguments on both sides. I had a kid my under 12's was 70kg and the same size as myself. The catch was he was very timid and a bit of a big puppy in his nature. He only wanted to play too be with his mates and I was convinced he was like he was because he didn't want to hurt anyone fully aware of his size. He would of been a victim in a weight for age system. He is an exeption to the rule I understand but he is a good example why every case needs to be judged on his own merrits. I often had to fend off "soccer mums" from other clubs who had concerns over his size. I understand their concearns but if they had of only meet the kid they would understand.

Mate, we're talking rugby here. I sometimes think the culture in NSW Country Rugby must be different to other places. We were always swapping players if one team was short. We even lost because of it sometimes. No big deal. It's all about the piss, ya soft city kids.

Who cares who wins? Just let 'em have fun.

Not on your own Scarfy, the NT was the same when I was involved. It is more in tune with the traditional values of rugby in my view. You get your awkward parents but they are deffinatly a minority and a firm chat away from the crowd can often pull them into line. Number one priority was always to ensure all the kids got a run. Getting the kids to play opposite their mates was a challenge at times though.
