Interested in who performs best out of Jones and Kellaway. Two of the best prospects going around. Kellaway has come out of the blocks like a bullet.

1st half seemed to fly by quickly. Good skills on show by both teams & some very solid hits. The NRC rule variations are certainly having the desired effect of putting speed on the game.

Rays try from a great maul much needed just before the break. 16-13 to the Eagles at H-T. With the wind at the Eagles' backs in the 2nd half the Rays will need plenty of possession to secure their 1st win.

It was a good night of footie; pity about the rain squalls. Met up with Pfitzy and Lindommer and talked about old times.

Some stray thoughts:

Good to see a new referee I didn't know officiating at this level.

That Highlanders mascot deserves double pay in his topless outfit.

It was good to see Kellaway at the ground in the NRC - he smoked Feltscheer for his first try but Feltscheer got his revenge late in the game.

• One thing to notice about AK (Andrew Kellaway), that we saw when he was at school, is that he is hard to stop when he is grabbed and just as hard to ground when stopped.

Country was better organised team in all aspects of play but most noticeably on defence. Better kicking game also.

• Good to see a bit of mauling done as it has been in by other teams but geez, the ball carriers unbind and rebind a lot, and some of the binds are just "hand jobs".

• Also good to see some players that I hadn't seen at the ground before: fellows like flyhalf Sam Windsor of Country - looks handy.

• ex-Rat skipper Cam Treloar playing against Rats in the Rays team - tell me it ain't so.

• Another top game from Tala Gray; interesting to see LHP Mike Ala'alatoa playing THP - maybe not as good as brother Allan in the position but it will look good on his CV.

• Outrageous cross-kick from Hoiles for try to Stubbs - it proves that having the skinniest legs in Aus rugby doesn't stop you from playing well.

• Crowd of 1600 - thought it was bigger.

• A couple of random turnovers which Country turned into tries was the big difference on the scoreboard but Country were clearly the better team.

Lots of other stray thoughts - like stream of consciousness - better stop - bye.

Lee I think you will find it was Crawford not Feltch that was humbled with AK (Andrew Kellaway)'s first try.
I swear they announced the crowd as 1950 or 1980?
Rays are in a bit of trouble Angus is not impressing and his replacement wouldn't have won the mascots race at 1/2time.he is fatter than some of the props and all of the hookers tonight.
Brian Sef has had enough of a go.
Time to give Hingano a run,& Killinworth as well.
Can't hurt,it will be hard for them not to improve the squad.

Edit: I'd also start the Holmes brothers on the bench.

It was Crawford? Don't spoil a good story.

It was in the far corner from me so I will give myself half marks for getting the try-scorer right.

That mascots' race at half time was something. One guy lost his pants.

Yeah Angus, the Shute Shield Player of the Year didn't compare with the Country guy did he?

Those two may as well have a go: Hingano is a terrific young player. Though Ale got a couple of nice poaches, Killingworth another fine player.

Hails from Bungendore apparently. Played Queanbeyan Whites before heading off to Blackheath for a season or two. Then back to Leinster (I think) for some more wet weather football experience. Now operating out of Woollahra oval with the Beasts.

Standouts were Hoiles, Gray, Kellaway. Lewis and especially Sam Windsor who completely outplayed Hamish Angus. Eagles scrum was also quite dominant.

McKibbon was the best of the No9s on show tonight. Thought the Eagles No 7 was a bit too small and slight to have an impact. The palm by Feltscher (?) in the clip above demonstrates what I mean.

Crowd was a tickle short of 2,000, outstanding for a cold, wet Thursday night out in the boondocks. Much improved for the attendance of NtA, LG and yours truly. Best dressed crowd Brookie's seen for some time, if ever.....

Josh Holmes service was quite slow, he needs to pass off the deck more. Rays need to find an experienced quality 10. Also good to see ACT lads Mitch Lewis and Sam Windsor getting opportunity and playing good footy in this competition
