It's a fucking sad day for me, as an Australian, to tip the Kiwi to win, and by a landslide.

Normally I go into a game somewhat optimistic and often, when playing New Zealand, reality strikes some time after that (the kickoff).

It just shits me some of the weird selections of Chek.

If we put our best team (and in the right positions) on the park (yeah, I know that is subjective) and got beaten I can accept that result. It just seems we are playing with one hand tied behind the back.

Could part of the reason be that Foley is a better defender than Quade in that 10 channel and Cheika might be interested in seeing how things play out with the 10/12/13 and back three defending in their relative positions at set piece etc. Rather than all the shuffling that occurs.

Speight is a pretty good defender also, so I suspect he is trying to shore up defensively to stop the leakage of points that has occurred in the two previous AB tests (and what happened against England)

Foley is a horrible defender, especially early this year. Although has looked better defending at 12. I'd say Cooper and Foley are on par.

I think Phipps at 9 has worked in Foley's favour as well as being the goal-kicker. These are the only 2 reasons I can see him pushing Cooper to the bench.

As you all know Arron Smith was banned for bonking a chick in the airport.
We now have a good chance to see TJ and TKB inside Beauden and Cruden.
Good to see the three rotated and kept fresh.

The last point of the game plan..........

Pin the Wallabies inside their 22 via kicks. Take advantage of Foley's poor kicking and counter attack through the broken field inside Australia's half.

I think Cheika is addressing the issues;

Lineout; This has been addressed with the 3 locks plus Mumm plus Timani as jumping options.

Exits; Hodge and Foley and DHP are capable (Foley on his own is a disaster).

Speed on the Wing; Speight should help them spread the defense. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Mitchell both looked slow also DHP has improved now he has had a few games at this level.

Defense; Only need to hide 1 player (Foley / Cooper ) rather than 3 at the beginning of the RC.

Line bending forwards; Coleman and Timani and Hooper if they can get it right.

However;
We still need more from the front row in the loose.
We will miss Fardy in the loose.

AB's by 12

why would the Abs be bothered to change their game plan?

all they are going to do is run straight & catch and pass like they have all season

and score 30 on us

Exits Lineouts and Defense have been the most shit part of the game in the previous 2 encounters.
Composure and Attack still shit but not quite as putrid.

Weird :
- Foley at 10 (everyone's been saying he's not a 12)
- Hodge at 12 (which 90% of the people here want)
- Speight on the wing (90% of the people on here have been saying we need a proper winger),

What you meant to say was:

"It just shits me when Cheika doesn't pick the team I would have picked".

Do you really think the scoreline is now going to blow out because of these selections?

Wish I had your confidence. But I disagree here. Foley at 10 will get the ball the majority of the time for exits and is consistently poor in this regard.

Against England we had To'omua, Foley and DHP - they kicked poorly, DHP and To'omua despite being better kickers were rarely used.

I am hoping Hodge is the difference and gets himself into first receiver often but I have my doubts that will happen.

Nah everyone is just confused and pissed off an out of form Foley is picked at 10 ahead of Cooper.

Most people are happy with all the other selections.

Well not everyone. I didn't see it coming either though I have to admit. There are reasons for it though and they are far more complex than what any of us can see from our single one dimensional viewing of each game. It could be combinations, either pre-existing or at training, or it could be strategic and related to the game plan. It could be to do with Cooper's role late in the game. It could be something entirely different.

But it's just easier to assume that Cheika is either biased or incompetent.

Firstly, since you're able to recall what 90% of people want here, you should be perfectly capable of recalling the England series and the first two Bledisloe tests.

In case you forgot, Foley was just as much a "nota10" 3 months ago as he is "nota12" now.

Those of us who aren't blinded by Foley-love remember this.

Then they recall statements made by the head coach over the last few weeks about "Standards" and how they "Have to apply across the board" in reference to various players being dropped.

Now we are seeing the coach continue to reward abysmal / anonymous peformances of his favorite player who lead us to 3-straight losses to England (with ~60% possession) and has been so unbelievably below par it's not funny.

But the thing is, after 6 years of Robbie Deans... It is funny now.

I read the team and laughed rather loudly. I wasn't shocked, surprised or bewildered as i'm very much used to clueless, biased selections that have become a staple of the Wallaby diet for the better part of a decade.

Foley's form has been substantially better in the last couple of games.

Whilst I would have retained Cooper it's somewhat ridiculous that people are saying they feel sorry for other players who have been selected purely on the basis that Foley is the 10.

Last season punters were saying Cheika set Cooper up to fail when he selected him to play 10 at Eden Park with White at 9.

You could use the same logic to say that Cheika is setting Foley up to fail this time.

The faux outrage is all a bit pointless.

Foley plays 10 as good as he plays 12:)
I don't think the scoreline will blow out because of these 3 selections - never said that at all. I have advocated the Hodge selection for ages.
I don't think the Wallabies have improved at all this year and quite frankly have regressed.
Continuing to select non performing players deflates team moral.

That is more the reason why the Wallabies are performing to the level they are

It is what it is.
