Silver Lake deal won't be approved by Unions at AGM in late April as at least some of them have asked for "greater detail" which I take to mean "what's in it for us?".

Anyway for this week I am on the bandwagon of I reckon Papalií being looked at for 6 in ABs. I watching him on weekend, and he had his best game of season etc, but for some reason it struck me if he played like that at 6 I would be stoked, he was running a 6 line with ball in hand a few times. I reckon a Cane/Papalií combo on flanks would work real well.

I think people forget how big Dalton is. He's 193cm and 113kg. That's enough size for a 6. Given the ABs don't have an answer at 6 I think it's definitely worth trying Papali'i there - he's played there before so it's not entirely foreign to him.

He's actually bigger than most other candidate kiwi, I not saying he should get gig , but I reckon it well worthwhile having a look at him there. Poms seemed to do alright with 2 opensides playing each side of scrum in 19 WC.

Certainly better than we did with Scott Barrett at 6.... *shudders*

To be fair to CC, Kaylan Ponga has just "put his AB dream on hold" & re-signed with Newcastle for another five years. Just once I'd like to see a Club or Union call one of these guy's bluff & see what happens.

At what position he played in Rugby Union? I heard that he reiceved an offer to play for QLD Reds and even for Brisbane Lions to play Aussie Rules. The kid was a prodigiuos for sports

Was a fullback at Church College. Someone who knows more about Qld schools footy than me could probably tell us if he was as good as his hype/ highlights reel suggests...

If he received offers being a teenager from 4 NRL clubs, a Super Rugby team and an AFL team, the kid was good. No doubts about it

Was interesting to hear Fozzie in Breakdown last night. Says for Irish series they will be naming usual 36 players as they usually do for Steinlagers series, but it may change by 2-3 , but numbers would go down not up. I take it to mean they will probably be naming their WC squad for next year more or less andso won't be bringing in maybe players that they not thinking will go next year. I guess there will be 6 x props, 3 x hookers, 4x locks, 6x loosies, 3x halfbacks, 2 x 10s, 4 x midfield and 6 x back 3 players and then a 10/15 type player (DMac-Perofeta type). and one other. Also said basically what they wanted to do last year, but because of Covid etc they had to name a lot more than they normally would. Also mentioned having to bring in more young ones etc they saw the need to bring in a few more specialists for skills etc.

Everything in that reel he has done at the top level. He’s injured a lot though and has been relatively inconsistent this season. But he’ll still make the QLD Origin side comfortably and I have no doubt if he gave Union a crack he would make the ABs. I can’t see him accepting a discount to move to Union so query whether it’s worth forking out for him.

All round good stuff coming out of AGM huh WOB? Not only the profit, but real pleased to see Sir Bee Gee a life member, he is ar rugby as a man can be, from playing for Ponsonby, Auckland and ABs, to coaching Ponsonby and Samoa, to being on Ponsonby club board (and a real club worker not figurehead) to president, to having a huge part in setting up Moana Pasifika, here is a rugby man!!!!

^ yeah, other than the SilverLake deal (God I hope no-one thinks "oh, we're doing OK without SilverLake so we don't really need them do we?") not being put to a vote it's all pretty positive which I wouldn't have thought was possible with all the problems Covid & the Gov's (fully on the money IMO) response to it have caused.

Yep WOB for all the moans we get about the NZR on here, we have to remember their job is to run NZ rugby, make sure it's run for rugby in NZ, and to make sure they do what they can to keep game surviving in NZ, personally think they doing alright at that. And they still doing it without making kids teams pay fees to them etc, rather it works other way.
