What a shambles, still think going with FouNations in the same vein as SupeRugby was a better idea.

Wow! And I thought my suggestions of iNations 2.0 or Super Nations was bad...

Why not just 4 Nations. Who cares if Rugby League has the name they used Tri-Nations prior to that so who cares. Hell, the Southern Cup would have been a better choice than the Championship.

Hmm I didn't like Four Nations because the league one is called that. Would've preferred something that relates to the competition; maybe Southern Rugby Cup is better.

What the fuck. I thought this was a wind-up. Surely something better is out there than that? I guess there's some spiel about 'instant recognition' and 'brand' that meant they went for this.

Anyway, whatever the name, I'm SupExcited to see the competition next year. It's gonna be awesome!

How uninspiring. The Southern Hemisphere Challange Cup would of been much better.

Can't believe people got paid for coming up with that name. Good to see their 1st worry was that it fit with what sponsors wanted rather than something to inspire the fans. Don't see how the name "The <insert sponsors name> Four Nations" would have been that bad. I suppose it's to make sure that if the name is shortened it will be to The Castrol Championship (or other sponsor) rather than people saying Four Nations. Would be similar to how people will more often say the Heineken Cup as opposed to the European Cup.

Also I guess it saves them a fee if at some point another Southern Hemisphere team was added. I magine the cost if they had gone with 4 nations and had to get another group of consultants in to rename it again would be huge. There was probably more money spent on the renaming exercise than some tier 2 or 3 national unions have as their yearly budget.

Wouldn't be surprised if in the near future one of the major competitions had it's emblem changed to the bean stalk that is expected grow from the magic beans they bought from some consultants.

Bottom Half Rugby Cup

Downunder Rugby Cup

SuperSouthern Rugby Tournament

The Southern Epic Rugby Cup - where EPIC is noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style (eg omer's Iliad is an epic poem), or - heroic; majestic; impressively great: eg, the epic events of the war.

or The SHREC = Southern Hemisphere Rugby Epic Cup

(edit - yes, the last one was a joke, although a lot of forwards do look a lot like Ogres)

Rugby is becoming more and more a victim to marketing wankers with their shit naming rights. Our team names have become generic (*insert Sponsor* Hurricanes/Chiefs/Force/Tacky Americanized nickname), our national teams have become enslaved by naming rights and now even our league name has become crap. If four nations was honestly that hard (stuff the fact league has one) what the hell was wrong with something less generic like the SANZAAR Championship or Southern Challenge Cup to reflect what it actually is, a southern hemisphere league with 4 teams. 'The Rugby Championship' makes it sound like some lame huge world series.

How does it not reflect what it is, were playing rugby and it's a championship, it works, it's not exciting but it works.

It should have some relevance to the competition. Look at the major international soccer tournaments. Euro Cup, African Cup, Americas Cup, Asian Cup etc. They don't call them The Soccer Championship - it's stupid. I think they should've incorporated Southern in it somewhere.

It's replacing "Tri nations" that had no reference to the sport or southern, I really don't understand why it's being dissected, it's has much more meaning than the old one.

The Rugby Championship will fit in with those other major tournaments like... The Soccer League, The Horse Racing Cup, and The Baseball Series.

Brilliant minds.

Nah, Tri Nations is infinitely better.

It at the least signifies it's a tournament played amongst 3 nations.

The Rugby Championship is the laziest, and most insignificant generic title of any major sporting event EVER.
