Kooga woud have looked for the cheapest possible option for the BaaBaas kit. They are "semi" obligated to kit them out. It is not much of a commercial opportunity at all. The BaaBaas play once every few years. How many jerseys would they sell each year? - Maybe 100-200 tops eg 10-20k profit - which would get eaten up by a couple of newspaper ads. Was the game even televised live or not?

that's a good point and something i was considering. i'm sure the demand would be high among us forum members, but outside of our tiny little realm i wonder who else would want to buy them? i think the novelty of not playing very often helps, but jeez if it wasn't even on tv, the "publicity" of people actually seeing the jersey and thus even considering buying it couldn't have been very high.

cost wouldnt be the issue, there is not much cost difference between a traditional jersey like the Barbarians and something a bit more flamboyant, most jerseys are screen printed these days whichh means it costs sweet f-all to chuck fancy designs on.

They have obviously gone with this design because it is the traditional design of the Barbarians outfit, I think they look good but i dont think i would be real keen on buying one.

A bit off topic here but could someone enlighten me on why we have a Kiwi as chief of liasons for the Wallabies and rugby.com.au? you know, the guy that does the interviews and stuff. Just curious thats all.

Hi, I am a n00b here but post on other rugby forums.
Just to add to the debate on the current "tech" jerseys, or should I say "rash T shirts".
I really don't like the round T shirt collar look, especially for fans to wear.
I would like to point out to those who lament the "traditional" collared jersey that they in fact are NOT original Rugby jerseys. The real old skool traditional jerseys were in fact "priest" collared like the ones on the Adidas All Blacks jerseys. Originally were either as seen on ABs or priest collar with lace front instead of buttons.
I am a jersey collector and seller (not advertising).

Leader - You are on to it. the 1884 NZ team had round neck long sleeve t-shirt style tops, the Original 1905 All Black jersey had a round lace up neck & leather yoke. From about 1907 they have a small laceup plaquet and a small round collar - the 1924 team had a leather plaquet and lace - that was the first year Canterbury made the ABs. The laces disappeared in about 1930 replaced by a normal button plaquet & collar style until 1949 when Canterbury invented the famous webbing loop-neck style which lasted until 1999

Is this sometimes called a grandfather collar?

Anyway Kim - a little plug for your business won't kill anyone. Go ahead.

Perhaps Kooga and ARU should knock about $50 off the prices. Otherwise, flying a Wallabies jersey back over from the UK makes more $$ sense than buying it here.

For those prices you could almost afford a return ticket to the UK to buy it in person.

Just bought one.

I've been married 14 years and I think it's the first time I have ever concealed the price of something I've purchased. I'm dead if she finds out I've spent $170 on a rugby jersey.
