On ABC’s Grandstand last night the new ARU CEO Bill Pulver revealed in broad brush-strokes what he felt should be the new third tier competition for Australian Rugby. [SEE VIDEO INSET] He called it a “Super-B” competition of hour long matches that would act as a curtain raisers for Australian super derbies. Specifically he described it as,

This is great. Not necessarily becasue it's a good idea, but it means that a lot of time and resources will no longer be wasted trying to guess what the ARU is going to do.

Club Rugby now knows for certain that the ARU doesn't give a crap and can get on with the job of working it out for themselves.

Not the result that's best but any result is better than nothing.

If there is a Waratahs B game on a weekend then those players will not play for there clubs
That's another 22 players taken out of Shute Shield
My understanding with the ground rules at the Stadiums is that there must be a 90 minute period between the end of a game and the start of the S15 game.
The coaches of the B squads will want the B squad players training with them during the week even if they don't have a game as they will want results so they can push for a higher coaching gig so that will take maybe 30 players from club training.
I think this B game idea is going to impact on clubs even more.

Interesting that Pulver doesn't need IRB approval for the Super B changes:

While many doubted Pulver could convince IRB blazers to agree, the ARU boss said he been informed there was nothing stopping him making the changes.

"The rules of rugby say a rugby match must have two halves, and each half cannot be greater than 40 minutes," Pulver said.

"So we are quite free to play 25 minutes halves. I also talked to them about seeking approval for no penalty goals.

"The truth is I actually don't have to do that. We can just get a coaches' agreement that we're not going to kick penalty goals."

Pulver said while he'd intended to seek approval for a shorter yellow card sanction, he'd also swung back to realising the existing 10 minutes was appropriately punitive.

"So there are three variations I can do there without changing the rules of the game," Pulver said.

"We just need a coaches agreement. I want a game that doesn't have penalty goals, and is focussed on smart, creative, running rugby."

This is the bit that interests me:
Exactly who plays in the teams is to be determined after a root and branch review of Australian rugby junior, club and academy pathways by new ARU development boss Ben Whitaker.

If it's like everything else these clowns do you can bet the review will consist of going downstairs at St Leonards for a coffee, asking the question, what do you think the Australian Rugby community want? This will followed by great laughter, a return upstairs then issuing a press release starting with the words, "After considering the the Australian Rugby community....

Nup, the plan is to run it before club season starts.

nup again, at least at Suncorp. Main game teams are not allowed on the field until approx 40 mins before kick off and must be off 10 mins before kick off. So for a 7:40pm kick off, curtain raisers usually finish around 6:45pm, Reds and opposition come out at 7, are off around 7.30pm ready for a 7:37.30 and 7:38.30 run out.

When you look at the figures 22 players spread over say 10 clubs(estimated number of clubs providing players for this "competition") is only 2 players per club and given that one of these players may be a colts player then the impact to SS is even less.

Don't think is a ral rape and pillaging of the clubs
