I tend to agree. Doesn't seem to be able to keep control.

Here is a guy with potential but has been given the ability to get a rails run. His performances at super level have been less than consistent. He continues to fail fitness tests (fact) yet seems to scrap through on his "last chance". And then he arrives 20 minutes late to referee the biggest schoolboy match of the season (Nudgee v GT) and life goes on. So far from professional but riding on dads coat tails. But when your old man is on the IRB panel...

Keen to get thoughts of onlookers re the 10 position for the Reds via City and Country. Looks like a race in two between McIntyre and Green. Green has the money at this stage for me. His passing width and kicking game are certain strengths. He organises play well too and seems to choose the right time to run. McIntyre comes across as a safe option and lacks a little X factor.

In 2008, Super Rugby used the 2007 ARC free kick regime (in which penalties were awarded for foul play only). The regime worked a treat in the Shute Shield and the ARC but it was a made a parody by the more senior Super Rugby referees a few months later.

The SS and ARC referees issued cards like lollies at a kids picnic, especially in the Shute Shield, and eventually the sanctions worked.

By contrast, the Super Rugby referees gave layers of warnings before issuing cards which betrayed one of the the rationales of the FK regime: instead of helping to speed the game up, the professional referees slowed it down.

Everybody in the NH was falling down laughing at this Aussie trick.

Whether the free kick ELV was a good idea or not, is not to the point, which is that if more carding is likely to be needed it must be used correctly and as part of that the calls have to be made accurately.

I was playing under those ELV rules back then in Sydney. They worked well I thought. As a backrower especially! We had countless sessions over the pre-season with the referees (probably helping them too) which got us kind of ready for what lay ahead. Don't think I got a yellow card that year either!!

Re Lilo's conversions, I was going off the match scoring records on Buildcorpnrc.com.au.

Please correct me. Through the entire broadcast tonight Maloney and Hoiles repeatedly mentioned a win would keep the Rays faint semi final hopes alive. Then as Louise Ransome and Hoiles were wrapping up they said the Rays could still mathematically make the play offs. The table above has the last. And while they are correct in saying mathematically they're a chance, then so too is everyone else. Yet there was NO mention of the Rams chances for playoffs during the whole broadcast.

I find it perplexing they could put such a slant on it. I don't follow the NRC at all. But I watched tonight coz the Mrs was out (no complaints) and I wanted to support our boy Larry Hermens on the wing as I couldn't get there. So I had nfi who had what chance of making semis or who didn't, but until I checked this blog waiting for rwc to start again tonight I wouldn't have known.

It's a shame.
