Dally Messenger.

it still baffles me that the biggest individual prise in rugby league is the "dally M" award when they beat there chests about players going for money and not for the love of the game.

The difference was rugby was "amatuer" and league players were paid. Rugby as an "amatuer" sport would not allow professionals into its ranks, no matter what sport in which they earnt their money. Hence the life bans on any player turning professional.

Sure... And players like Campo stayed in rugby just for the love of it... ;)

I put the " " around amatuer for just that reason. Sorry, subtlety is not one of my strong points.

I thought you put the " " around amatuer (sic) to highlight that you couldn't spell that word.

Oh look, someone criticising a spelling mistake that doesn't confuse the meaning of a sentence on the internet. What a rare and beautiful sight.

Try a :) mate. Have a little fun.

If you want to be serious, where was my criticism?

The only danger with something like this is that mungo star converts would want even more money and guarantees to switch codes, which the powers that be in the ARU could well grant them for marketing purposes. 2012 is the year I imagine mungoball will get raided heavily -- lots of SANZAR stars will likely head north for money and something different after the RWC, so the ARU will be flush with unallocated dosh.

Personally I think they'd be better served using that money to import some Georgian or Argentinian front-rowers, or saffa locks. Ones who will be eligible for the wallabies. Or maybe try to start up a domestic comp again. Buying mungo backs doesn't help us much. Our backs never have been the problem, and it doesn't seem to attract any revenue from the League-supporting market anyway. As the Reds have shown this season: if the teams improve then support will improve.

I wasn't being deadly serious, just a little sarcastic
