I am not sure if this thread has been covered already in Gaggerland but having done a search I can't seem to find a similar thread.

Anyhow.....

During a discussion with a mate, and inspired by the advertisement on FoxSports for some bank or something else where footage is shown from the Barbarians (Gareth Edwards) '74 try of the century against the Darkness which many pundits will claim is the best ever..... he reckons the most spectacular try he can recall is the effort by Yoshihito Yoshida (Japan) in the second test match All Blacks vs World XV at Athletic Park Wellington 1992.

According to my google research
"The first one was a Japanese man diving in mid flight catching the ball and doting down Yoshihito Yoshida that was in the second test match All Blacks vs a World XV. As good as any try scored or created by David Campese, Rugby World Cup Semi Final"
"I think the Japanese player was Yoshihito Yoshida. Can't find a youtube link though. Nor for the Wales one."

If the comment above about You Tube is correct - I couldn't find it, Does anyone out there in Gaggerland have the footage of the Yoshida try that they could post, or a link to where we can find footage of that try?

It was a bloody good try - I was at that match. From memory it was under the bar too.

Thanks Jay-c

That was great to see, the pass from Hercus was fantastic, split second decision, long and accurate

My favourite tries are the ones where you just sit back and think 'well that shouldn't have been possible'.

but my all time favourite try is the last one of the below, skip to 5 mins if you want:

I think there was a 'most audacious plays' thread from a few months ago but I don't have time to have a look now, will try later

I am one of those blokes who likes seeing 30 plus phases put together by teams to score tries. I feel that patience as 15 blokes on the park is far more spectacular than idividual brilliance.

Geez, that was a young looking Drew Mitchell right behind Latham for that try, too.

Not one of the greatest ever, but it's certainly "beautiful in a dramatic and eye-catching way".

And this is one of my favourites, because it's not until the very end that you know who's going to get the try.

I think that last AB try is a bit overrated. After all of that complexity, it still came down to a straight one-on-one missed tackle from Flatley. It's not like they sucked in defenders and created a huge hole. It was a very nice move but if Umaga hadn't fended off Elton then it would have gone nowhere.

Tend to agree with Baabaa, but it was the slickness of the set move that caused Flatley to be sucked in and misread the defence. It was Flatley had too far to slide that he missed the tackle, not so much the fend. I remember seeing that try anyway and thinking "wow!" (Same as when I watched the first Latham try live, was amazed - I was sure he was going into touch.) Anyway, that is the last time I can remember seeing such a complex set move between top tier nations work beautifully.

Flatley was committed to Lomu on the cut and had to try and adjust at the last second. The complexity of the play did actually lead to the break.

I've always like this one more though. Great series too.

It's not the greatest try ever (but I do think it's better than that Baabaa's one).
