Easy NTA. I played in that game (for Oakhill)

I shall assume you're not one of the dickheads. :)

So did a couple of fights break out? I happened to be at the pub tonight dropping off some documents, when one of the Redfield chaps stopped past and was very keen to resume old rivalries :)

Well Bruce you are welcome to start your own forum and set rules there about not having opinion or a sense of humour. Like Cutter, I value your opinion, except when it comes from high on your horse.

And nobody put a gun to Tom Carter's head forcing him do The Monkey Cloud.
No, but Chris Hickey knows the headache sutra that makes him do it, I'll bet. And yes, Monkey was around in my youth and I admit some nerdishness in knowing that!!!

Steady on. Giving opinions from a high horse is not against the forum rules. I haven't been banned yet.

Self deprecation is a wonderfully redeeming feature of high horse sitters.

TBH it was my first game for the Oaks Oldboys, so maybe the dickheadedness hasnt come over me yet. ;)

I had my head in a ruck at the time the first fight started, but I vividly remember that as the referee called the Dundas player out to address him with the captain present after the first fight ended, instead of marching over to the referee he came straight towards the Oakhill group to begin a second fight.

Cheap shots all round, blokes being punched in the back of the head and some headbutts. Really was the definition of a "scrap" rather than a fight.

This would have been fine if they hadnt then taken offence to any attempted counter-rucking after that. Or brought on a whole different team in the last two quarters to kill off our depleted side. Sad because the original two sides on the park were a really even matchup.

Will you and I come to blows this season, NTA, or are you in another division? :)

haha that line reminds me of my rugger.

i play colts in melbourne and probably half or a touch more of the schools players end up at two different clubs, melbourne and harlequins. everyone knows each other at the two clubs, having played with or against each other for years and years, and everyone is mates... but jesus the games are intense.

all in good fun.

I remember a few years ago we showed up early in the morning at Oakhill to play a Central Coast side, who were down a few players. We had more than enough, so some of us got to play against their own school. I may have scored a try against my alma mater  :lmao:

Please don't go, Bruce. I value your opinions greatly. If you do go, could you please favour me with an answer to the question I posed to you a while ago? Yes, the celebrated Tom Carter was the subject. What I asked concerned the outcomes from his highly impressive statistics that you and others presented. I wanted to know to just what Carter's ball carries led, for example. Did they result in tries for others, many metres for others, breaks by others and so on. The outcomes are much more important than the raw numbers. Thank you.

If you care enough to ask the question a second time, look it up yourself. If you are trying to make a point, it's been well and truly made.

I care enough to ask a second time because I don't know the answers. The only point I am trying to make is that what happens as a result of a player's actions is more important than those actions in themselves. I make no comment about the outcomes for any one player. I do not know.

I don't know "where to look it up". That is why I asked the question.

"I don't know" once is worth a thousand yak yaks by someone who does not know.

Nope - Oaks went down to 6th Division. They've had trouble keeping numbers and unfortunately fell into the 5th Div trap of putting their best side out in 2nds and then getting boshed in Firsts (rather than forfeiting 2nds; won them a 2nd Grade title in 2008). Tis the way of things in the bottom divisions unfortunately.

:nta: You might be asking the wrong person. 8)

From my personal point of view, there are some good guys there, but there are a bunch who seem to bring out the worst in each other when they're together. They haven't grown out of their school pants in that regard.

That particular style of brawl you've experienced already is going to be a common occurrence this season if my past three years as an Oakhill opponent is anything to go by. I personally have been rucked in the head by Oaks players - quite deliberately - not to mention being physically threatened on the sideline by one of their players as he was being sent off. I also got some bloke wanting to "smash" me in the scrum, after I made some offhand remark about him being a sister-slammer, which was quite amusing when I shoved his head up his arse :lmao:

Dundas Valley and Redfield College are bitter enemies of Oakhill as I understand things, and with a few cuzzy teams thrown in (Bankstown, Canterbury, Liverpool) you might end up on the end of a few blows brought on by your teammates that you weren't expecting.

Some of their guys take great delight in being fuckwits on and off the pitch and no other club in 5th Division liked them at all. After the debacle in 2008 with them racking up excess red cards (yet still winning 2nd Grade because Subbies failed to kick them out), then rolling into 2009 in the same fashion, Subbies hoped they'd just disappear.

On the plus side, they have skill, they back each other all the way (even in the fights) and they know how to work the ref. But I wouldn't play with them if you paid me.

Actually, Cutter, I've almost given up posting on this site for two reasons:

1. I'm offended by the mob ridicule of players who go out on the paddock week after week and give it their best shot; then find they're the butt of every one's clumsy attempts at humour and/or outpourings of bile; and

2. I get abused if I comment on players that I actually know quite a lot about who happen to play for my Club, but then, as in this instance, am challenged to defend the way the Club operates.

Bruce

I know nothing (as Sergeant Schultz would say) about Sydney club rugby apart from what I read here and a few bits and pieces.

I'm neutral in any of these conversations. I know your club (and you as a representative) cops a bit of a bagging from our correspondents.

That's obviously because some would think Uni is too successful, indeed some view it as voracious - the 'new' Randwick.

There's a tall poppy syndrome filtering through here from one side and a success breeds success story from the other. I don't care who's 'right' and who's 'wrong'.

What I care about are cogent arguments from you and others defending the indefensible, attacking the bullshit or plain wrong, or accentuating the positive and eliminating the negative.

You cannot discontinue contributing to this website. This is one of only a few places where you and others are able to discuss these sorts of issues in any depth.

And the reality of democracy is that your contribution is invaluable.

That's because every one of these contributors, including yourself, have the best interests of Australian, NSW, Sydney and club rugby at heart.

You can't be too precious about this. Everyone is entitled to their own view.

But your view is every bit as valuable as Cutters or the rest.

It's the Australian way to attack the tall poppy. They're not attacking you, it's just the syndrome and since you're not the underdog, it's probably 'deserved'.

The good news is that you've probably got a bit more credibility than most.

Cop a bit of criticism but hammer them back and fight the good fight.

In fact, I think your facts are beginning to outweigh the innuendo and 'alleged alleged'......

Bruce two of the best posters asked you to stay Boet, I have been there, done that and understand exactly the way you feel.

Dont let they get to you Boet, rugby forums need knowlegeable rugby posters, not white collar IT nerds that dunno the shape of a rugby ball.

If they post or ask you dribble, just let it go from one ear to the other, into file 13.
