Why are RA waiting so long to state their position? Why don't they just come out and say they want to shut it down?
In an indirect way RA have by deciding to do nothing more than prop-up the side for 2024 and have made it clear all conversations were about 2024. The lack of anything since then is a pretty clear clue. Let's be honest, nobody is stepping in to genuinely save the Rebels. Not even the State Government. Those making proposal are doing it as it helps their self-interests. I know that's not unusual to have self interest in any deal, but when its token gestures like a quick sugar hit and not a long term plan on one side, and the other is to fund legal action against the game (RA), none of it helps the game. Quite the opposite.
Reading all of this I can't help but form an opinion that this directors first, club later rescue plan. The ATO releasing them from the notices is fanciful and certainly not in the public's interest.
The qeustion I have is if the Tarneit group really want a Super Rugby team, they could skip the skeletons and start afresh instead of wasting all that cash just to bail the Rebels.? The reality that's not what this its about.
It is about justifying a stadium build using the Rebels as a short term justification. We don't need to back in the same position this next year when the cash and deal are ending and trying to save a less supported, poorly located team with no backers and no ground. Rip the band-aid off now and move forward. Unless it a commitments to 10yrs plus to re-establish a brand and a team, or re-invent the same one, all the proposals thus far lead us to the same problems and lack of solutions in 12 months time.
