Melbourne Rebels 2024

“We’ve got guys who are on contract for next year,” Foote told the 8-9 Combo Rugby podcast.

“Those players are guaranteed for next year but that’s not to say they’re not under stress because they don’t know where that’s going to be.

“But then we have this other group of players who don’t have a contract next year. Now, some of those guys, they were right down the line with us negotiation-wise. Even some of them were with Rugby Australia waiting to get signed off. Those players now don’t have anything.

“So every dropped ball in training or any mistake on the field gets blown out of proportion.”

Been reported that RA is meeting with the players asking where they want to play next year.

There is a fair conflict of interest, the administrator advised taking the deal, the deal was voted for by the creditors. While people complain about the lack of detail in the plan it has been reported that RA has received an 100 page plus business plan.

Yet RA is still hell bent on cutting them to try and make the other team they own competitive.

Except the largest creditor (the ATO) voted against the deal because it was far worse for them and Rugby Australia also voted against the deal because the deal involved litigation funding to sue them.

Suggesting that RA should support the deal because the creditors recommended it is farcical.

Wasn't it reported only a couple of days ago that RA would be receiving the 100-page plan "within the next day or so"? Are you expecting RA to read and evaluate the plan within a few hours or...?

Na just vote against a deal that is going to provide funding to a club until 2030.

Lose all the money that the Vic government pays for rugby events sounds like a real winner.

RA has always driven the agenda to wind the rebels up

Yes, I would expect that they read the plan within a few hours, this is the biggest decision they have to make right now. So as soon as they received the plan on Sunday I would expect all board members and senior level staff to have it read and be in a meeting to discuss first thing Monday morning.

Well before any meetings with Rebels players take place.

As long as any threat of litigation is dropped (which the recent article quoting Leigh Clifford seemed to suggest) why wouldn't RA back the consortium? If they really do have $20-30 million of backing, then it at least guarantees the Rebels viability for a few years so why not give it a shot? Melbourne/VIC is too big a market to give up on with this kind of investment on the table. It also gives RA more options in case Super Rugby falls over post 2030 (easier to start a domestic competition with 5 pre-existing local teams than 4!).

But personally I've become more optimistic about the potential of SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) this year. It'll take time to turn things around, but the quality of the tournament this year has been pretty good, and I think there's a few easy wins out there for RA and NZR to grow the pie for everyones benefit.

How generous of them.

Just rip the band aid off already, this is farcical.
There is no way RA can announce a decision while there is a threat of legal action and the DOCA has a 60 day plan within it. There's still 45 days to play through, with all that that entails

The article was posted on Monday with the quote from Leigh Clifford saying he "hopes" to have the report to RA "in the next day or so" - that would mean hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday. Today is Thursday.

RA aren't, and no organisation should be, fully evaluating something of this nature within <24hrs.

What deal? What funding?

So far there's a lot of talk, but there is nothing concrete to show from it... yet, and from a group of people who created this mess and whose interests are mostly self serving, some just trying to avoid coughing up to the ATO.

Because they have already gutted the Tahs to fit the rebels squad in there. That’s why, RA has made their mind up. I doubt they will even look at the plan

Nah Leigh Clifford, the man heading the consortium bid has said they’ve engaged a firm to prepare documentation supporting the bid, however this isn’t done yet and they’re still hoping to get it to RA in coming days.. So I’d say there is still a lack of detail about the plan if the consortium hasn’t even finalised it

Possibly it's been edited since you read it, but the article today only says "recently" - Sunday was an address by Widdup
They also occurred 24 hours after former director Georgia Widdup addressed the Rebels on Sunday and said private investors remained ready to back the franchise’s future.

It’s understood RA was recently provided a 100-page document providing further details about the private consortium, which is promising to throw in $30 million to ensure the Rebels continue.

the deal was voted for by the creditors.
I believe it was a one creditor one vote, not based on the amount owed to creditors. Therefore with each director and related party having a vote equall to the largest creditor, it would appear to be a skewed vote

Yeah an interview with him said Korda was preparing a several hundred page document. But then another article says a 100 page document has been provided
