Melbourne Rebels 2024

21 & 22 feels like a pretty low number for halfway through the 15th season.
It really is - there are currently 10 players in the reds squad with 50 reds caps (Fa'agase, Blyth, Smith, McReight, Wilson, Wright, McDermott, O'Connor, Petaia and Campbell) with a bunch more in the 40s who will likely hit 50 this season. O'Connor is the only one of hose guys that started his career before the Rebels existed, but even then his first game for the Reds was 2015. The inability to hold on to talent for any decent length of time has been one of the Rebels major issues.

The following will probably make it even more unbelievable.

Lopeti Timani, Scott Fuglistaller, Toby Smith and Paul Alo-Emile all finished with exactly 50 Super Rugby games for the Rebels.

So it could be an even lower number.

Wouldn't it be great if the Reb media team did a "where are they now..." post

If the Brumbies beat the Reds tomorrow, we’ll be on the same amount of wins after 6 rounds, and the Reds are the saviours of Aus Rugby - so does that mean we are too?

Congrats to the Rebels. I am a Tahs supporter from way back, now we live in Queensland. Nevertheless I was delighted to see such a committed and skilful performance.

Congratulations to Carter Gordon on becoming the 11th player to score 100 points for the Melbourne Rebels.
I thought some of you might be interested in a list of the top points scorers for the Rebels:

Poor Woodward. He chased his ABs dream, and that's admirable, but choosing to go home to the Canes when they had back 3 players options consisting of Julian Savea, Corey Jane, Milner-Skudder and James Marshall, before you even consider Nonu and Smith were keeping the likes of Matty Proctor and Ray Lee-Lo out of the centers was just... not the smartest career move.

He did get a Championship out of it, so swings and roundabouts

Again a low number for a club in 15 seasons
Assuming it takes a couple of years as primary kicker to rack up 100 points, and 9 of the top 11 are kickers, it seems about right from a kicker perspective - you can see the lineage in the list. There’s also 3-4 dominant try scorers in there. How many more should we have?
